FPL Updates XI – FPL Gameweek 37 – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Last week couldn’t have been more ‘meh’ if we had tried. 45pts (with 14 on the bench) on a 44pt weekly average meant we dropped from 20k to 24k, leaving our hopes of a top 10k finish hanging by a thread. We do still have our Triple Captain chip and a team full of doubles so I won’t write it off just yet, but we are going to need a little bit of luck.

Last week I said Burnley clean sheets are a myth. FT Burnley 0-0 Brighton. Obviously. I went with David De Gea and his mingey 2pts whilst Nick Pope sat chilling on the bench after claiming only his 2nd cleanie in 15 GW’s.

At the back it actually improved as both Matt Lowton and Jan Vertonghen scored 6pts. With Andreas Christensen not playing I f*cked up the bench and we had Luke Chilwell come in instead of Lewis Dunk. Losing out on those points hurt.

In midfield we were saved on Sunday by Paul Pogba. A goal and maximum bonus against Arsenal meant he registered his 6th double figure return of the season. Not bad for a player under £8m. He picked up the slack as both Riyad Mahrez and Heung Min Son started and blanked whilst Willian only had a 9 minute cameo.

Up front it all hinged on captain Harry Kane. Although he looks like he’s running in treacle at the moment he stepped up and scored to give us a much needed 12pts from him. Playing badly but still scoring 2 in 2. Certainly food for thought going into GW37.

GW36 in the rear view mirror it’s time to move onto the biggest and most important GW of the season. The big DGW of the season is always the one that defines an FPL season. Last year it was GW34 this time it’s GW37. Being so late in the season it brings it’s pitfalls but also means you can make up serious ground in mini leagues and/or overall rankings. The pitfalls being rotation so sensible moves advised. With that said here are our transfers this week

Mahrez (OUT) – Sane (IN)
Lukaku (OUT) – Jesus (IN)
Christensen (OUT) – Otamendi (IN)

We avoided a transfer in GW36 so we had 2 free here. With Romelu Lukaku’s absence confirmed the move to Gabriel Jesus was a no brainer. What I do have to admit here though is the transfer of Christensen to Otamendi was a mistake. I had no intention of confirming it after just playing around with options. Unfortunately the app froze and in the frustration I started angrily pressing buttons. As I reloaded the app the move was made and my phone very nearly went out the window. I’ve since come to terms with it but I’m very concerned Christensen delivers this week.

At least we don’t have a keeper decision this week. David De Gea obviously has to start. 2 away games but I’d be stunned if he didn’t pick up at least 1 clean sheet given United’s defensive form this season.

At the back we reluctantly welcome new boy Nicolas Otamendi. In all fairness his games make him a good player to have, I’d just rather it wasn’t for a hit and for Christensen. He’s joined by Luke Chilwell and Jan Vertonghen. Watching Leicester play last week I’ll just take Chilwell scoring 4pts this GW. The entire team look ready for the beach so hopes are rock bottom here. Vertonghen on the other hand holds hopes for us. He looked great on Monday and with Spurs needing results to cement a top 4 spot he should play both and give us good chances of at least 1 clean sheet.

In midfield we go with 5 and keep Heung Min Son. Mr Purple Patch. Seems to go through spells of delivering but this is currently not one of those spells. Just 2 assists and no goals over the last 5 he really is due one. I’m holding out hope. Another player in a bit of a lull is Willian. Over the same 5 GW period he only has 1 assist and no goals. Admittedly he has only played 9 minutes over the last 2 weeks. Which is why I’m confident here. He should start both after the rotation and points really should follow with 2 home games this coming week. Leroy Sane comes in. I know most people are saying Raheem Sterling is the must have City mid but I have a feeling here. Pep has already discussed rotation for the final games since winning the league and Sterling has started 6 straight. I can’t help but feel he is benched for 1 of them whilst Sane on the other hand was benched in GW35 so I think he starts both. I could be wrong but when he starts he always looks like scoring. Paul Pogba will be looking to follow up on his performance last Sunday. Brighton and West Ham should give him plenty of opportunities here. Last up in midfield is our bargain option on a double, Kenedy. £4.8m he allows us to spend elsewhere and playing so far forward he always gives us a chance of attacking points. I would really rather then came against Watford and not Spurs though!

Up top it’s a power front 2. Gabriel Jesus comes in. With Aguero out and Huddersfield and Brighton visiting he looks a must own here. 4 goals in his last 4 starts he is a genuine Triple Captain option this week. He joins Harry Kane. As mentioned above he is looking a bit shit at the moment but is still scoring. Even though he seems to have rushed back from injury I really don’t think I have the bollocks to run without him. He has the potential to score at will and given that he is still chasing the Golden Boot I think he does the business for us.

I’m happy with the 11 here. My initial target is breaking 100pts but it all depends on rotation and who we have as Triple Captain. I had deliberated picking this myself but you guys have done so well with the captain vote this year I’m going to let you guys loose with the decision. The vote is below so please please please help us and get the choice right and push us towards the top 10k.

It’s a massive week so my only advice is make sure you know what you aim is. It’s either mini league or overall ranking. Make moves in accordance with that and not what the popular opinion is on Twitter. As always myself and the guys at FPL Updates are happy to help before tonight’s deadline so feel free to give us a shout.

Thanks for reading and good luck to you all!
