FPL Updates XI – Gameweek 29 Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Green arrows two weeks in a row and now three in the last four. The moves up the rankings may not be as substantial as I would have liked but it’s important to get back on the right track at the business end of the season. Especially given that this is when double game weeks and blank weeks are plentiful.

We went into gameweek 28 taking a 4pt hit but running with a healthy eight starters (Matty Phillips being ruled out wasn’t ideal) and came away with 37pts on a 19pt week average.

For the first time in months we got the right goalkeeper choice! Hallelujah! As always our two scored either 2pts or 1pt but it’s nice making the right choice no matter the points.

Harry Maguire made it a double up defensively for Hull but a late Swansea consolation scuppered any hopes we had of clean sheet points. Chris Brunt and Leighton Baines faced each other and unfortunately for us neither managed to play more than a half. Brunt a late sub on for WBA whilst Baines was withdrawn at half time because of injury.

Our midfield lost Matty Phillips before the games even started so we ran with just Sadio Mane and Tom Davies in an experimental midfield two. Don’t see it catching on to be honest. 5 ppoints combined was nothing to shout about.

It was up top that saved us though. 24 points from captain Romelu Lukaku was a huge relief in a week where any attacking returns made a huge impact on scores. Rom’s goal and assist meant he moved up to 2nd highest FPL scorer this season on 166pts. His 19 goals this season is already his best ever scoring total and still has 10 games left.

With the biggest blank week of the season over, we now need to worry about how we rebuild the team. So many big names dropped from teams, the big question now is when do you call your Wildcard in? It seems to be a split view with many believing now is the time so that you can bring back your Alexis Sanchez’s and Diego Costa’s and others holding on until confirmation of double game weeks. We have gone with the latter.

Looking at the fixtures and our current line up, I’m happy to leave them for this week and role with just one transfer and it’s purely being done to finally get rid of Matty Phillips. I think the Wildcard can be better used when we have an exact viewpoint of the double game weeks and if used in tandem with Bench Boost, it can change teams’ seasons.

Phillips (OUT) – King (IN)

I can’t even begin to explain how long I contemplated bringing in Josh King last week but felt -8pts was a little too hefty for a week where the average was likely to hover around the 20pt mark. Quite frustrating. So we have jumped on the bandwagon now and brought him in.

In goal I have less chance of picking up a clean sheet from either keeper than I do of having a threesome with the twins from Fun House. One for the older readers! But I’m going to go with Ben Foster because I think he will rack up a fair number of saves whilst Eldin Jakupovic is against two of our attacking players.

At the back we are hoping Leighton Baines is fit with a favourable home game against Hull. Chris Brunt doubles up for us against Arsenal, which isn’t a good look but looks a better option than either Harry Maguire or Erik Pieters. Whilst John Stones is our last defender. Home to Liverpool and I have literally no idea if that’s good or bad as how can anyone even begin to predict which Liverpool will turn up?! Hopefully the same one that got turned over by Leicester as we are sitting on triple Manchester City coverage.

The second of that coverage is Kevin De Bruyne. In my eyes one of the best players in the world but he’s being significantly shown up by Leroy Sane in the City midfield at the moment. Just three attacking returns in the last 10 game weeks for KDB mean we need something soon to justify his lofty price tag. Alongside him we have another midfielder in the same game, Sadio Mane. A blank in the reverse fixture, he conflicts with John Stones so if he scores I will be hoping he makes it at least a couple. Tom Davies retains his place. Typically, much like a lot of our transfers in, he has blanked every week we have owned him. For a player sub £4.4m, I’m not going to be expecting a return a week but he’s playing well enough to start scoring points soon. Last up is new boy Josh King. Five goals in his last three games means this is about as bandwagon as it gets but he looks the perfect replacement for Phillips. He is looking at a run of Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs consecutively soon but for the next two weeks he looks a nice pick.

Up front we look pretty healthy. With Harry Kane out of action now and therefore unable to f*cking ruin my Sunday’s we have a fairly decent looking front three. Sergio Aguero is becoming my guilty pleasure. It’s becoming harder and harder to justify owning him given his unpredictable form and eye watering price tag but I just can’t not own him when he’s fit. Maybe my tendency to reminisce about the good old days of FPL come into play but I still feel there are very few players that can do what he can in any given match. Home to Liverpool, he’s got a goal in him there. Andy Carroll is in after the blank last week. Up against Leicester, I’ve been reliably informed by my friend’s sister’s cousin’s ex boyfriend’s cleaner that the Leicester lads were boozing it up in Liquid and Envy until the early hours on Wednesday after that win. Andy Carroll could have a field day if Wes Morgan’s 3 day hangover is anything like mine last weekend. Last but not least is Romelu Lukaku and he has been rewarded with the armband for the second week in a row. Home to Hull it’s probably not the hardest decision I’ve made all season.

So there we have it. Green arrows three weeks in a row? Probably not but if it is it will be the first time we’ve done it since game weeks four to six. There’s a few players I’m concerned we don’t own but all are playing in fairly tough matches.

Good luck to all and whatever you do please make sure you enjoy every minute of FPL action this week for we are just one week away from the return of the dreaded International break. The thought of no domestic football whilst at the same time having to watch Jake Livermore pulling the strings against Lithuania’s finest is enough for me to cherish games as bad as Crystal Palace and Watford.

Thanks for reading.
