FPL Updates XI – Gameweek 5 Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Wildcard in, 55 points scored and green arrows all round. Considering we walked into Monday Night football with just 23 points from 8 players it is a minor miracle we broke 50, but we have our Everton boys to thank for that. 32pts scored in one match left us a relieved bunch on Tuesday morning so now the dust has settled on gameweek 4 let’s have a look at the breakdown of our team.

Here’s how the FPL Updates XI looked at the end of the week:

FPL Updates XI

We started Foster over Jakupovic and even though it was just a point in it we got it right. The same couldn’t be said for our defence, with Ben Davies’ cleanie points sat there keeping our bench warm as we started both Luke Shaw and Jonny Evans over him. Thankfully we claimed a much needed 8pts from Leighton Baines with his cleanie and surprise 2 bonus. Whisper it, but he is starting to look like the Baines of old. 10% ownership and a sexy run of games, he’s one of the first names on our team sheet.

So onto our midfield and I’m still trying to get my head around how our first sub Etienne Capoue scored 8pts, more than Mesut Ozil, Eden Hazard and Raheen Sterling combined. That even included Hazard as captain. Yannick Bolasie made it a little more respectable though as he scored us 7pts and genuinely started to look like the player he’s been tipped to become.

Although we were cursing our woeful midfield it was the complete opposite with our front 3. We gambled without Zlatan and it actually paid off as all 3 of our strikers scored. Harry Kane and Christian Benteke delivered for us on Saturday with their first goals of the season, but it was Romelu Lukaku who saved us with a second half hattie against Sunderland. We talked last week about the Everton run and the crazily low ownership of the big Belgian and he repaid us in a big way. You will hear the usual criticism of Lukaku, that he lacks consistency, he misses too many chances blah blah blah, but if you don’t currently own him I genuinely wonder what you are doing. This Everton team looks a completely different proposition under Ronald Koeman and Rom will thrive. It’s a small shame that his ownership has crept up to 13%, but that’s still bafflingly low. My advice, get him in asap!

So that was our gameweek 4. A team that moved us up into the top 250k. With Sergio Aguero in ominous form in the Champions League this week it would be borderline negligent to not at least have a contingency plan in mind for his return. So with that said we are stashing this weeks free transfer to give us 2 next week when he will have served his ban. Plus we picked this team with our wildcard so we are keeping the faith and this is how we will line up in gameweek 5.

FPL Updates XI

Another week where I simply cannot see either keeper grabbing a cleanie. Ben Foster home to West Ham gets the nod purely because there is absolutely zero chance of Eldin Jakupovic will.

Our back 3 was a tough one this week. All 5 can make a case for inclusion, but we are only running with 3. Ben Davies, John Stones and Leighton Baines get the nod. All have nice home games and we are certainly hoping/expecting at least 15pts from the trio.

The midfield gets it’s chance to make it up to us. The one positive is that they cannot be as sh*t as last week. Eden Hazard features first in Friday Night football and it’s a big one. I’m not even going to pretend to know what Liverpool will turn up from an attacking sense, but we all know how rubbish the Liverpool defence is. I can see him being a popular captain choice but not for us. Next to him are 3 midfielders with a very nice games and big potential for points. Mesut Ozil plays Hull and although Hull have started well there are very few teams as consistent against the newly promoted as Arsenal. Raheem Sterling took has had a great start to the season, but was completely over shadowed by Kevin De Bruyne last week. It does look like City will straight up batter teams this year so my only advice is to own at least a part of that attack. Who you own is up to you and budget dependent. Last up is Yannick Bolasie. Thoroughly impressive last week he keeps his place here and all we can do is hope that Ronald Koeman keeps him in the starting 11.

Up top it’s the same 3 as last week. What is very bizarre is all 3 of them play a team that one of the others scored against last week. Romelu Lukaku, fresh from his hattie, faces Middlesbrough at Goodison Park. Boro looked really ropey against the power and aerial prowess of Christian Benteke last week so hopefully Rom can give us a repeat. Benteke himself starts for us again and faces a Stoke team that were comprehensively beaten by Harry Kane’s Spurs and Harry Kane faces Sunderland. All 3 would look good wearing the armband this week but we give it to the Kane. Granted, he still looks a little way away from his form of last year, but after watching Sunderland defend on Monday I’m more than happy to give it to the Spurs man. At times you could have flown a jumbo jet between the centre halves so what better way to get ‘Arry back firing. There’s a small doubt in my mind that he might not start, but until I feel otherwise he’s the one.

So that’s how we look this week. We got a little lucky last week but picked this wildcard team for a reason so no knee jerking from us. Our goal this season is a top 25k finish so we have a long way to go, but we like how we look and feel confident of green arrows on Sunday night. For anyone that called the wildcard in last week be patient, avoid unnecessary hits and have a plan for Aguero’s return, whether you think you want him or not.

Good luck to everyone this week and don’t forget the deadline is tonight!
