FPL Gameweek 10 Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 10 would see a high-scoring weekend in terms of FPL points, with one manager bringing in over 130 in a week that would see both Arsenal and Manchester City hit four past their respective opponents. Manchester United would also be held at home, as pressure mounts on José Mourinho to put an end to their poor form. Antonio Conte’s Chelsea machine rolled on, while Stoke faced a Swansea side under new management, looking to stem the tide after some extremely poor form in recent weeks. Nonetheless, here is our FPL Gameweek 10 Review.

FPL Gameweek 10 Review

Goalkeeper

Tom Heaton – The Burnley shot stopper was in superb form as his side travelled to Old Trafford to face a Manchester United side that have found wins hard to come by in recent weeks. Burnley struggled against their superior opposition, however despite breaching the Clarets defence on a number of occasions, they consistently met a combination of Heaton and woodwork too difficult to cross. Zlatan Ibrahimović had numerous chances to put the game beyond Burnley, including a devastating miss in the dying embers, as he put over an empty net at the back post. However, it will be Heaton’s performance that’s remembered after a famous point for Burnley.

Defenders

Sebastian Prodl – Watford took on Hull at Vicarage road on Saturday in very different circumstances. Watford were looking to continue the strong early season form that saw them safe come January last season, while Hull haven’t registered a victory since gameweek 2 when they secured a 2-0 success at the Liberty against Swansea City. The Watford defence secured their second consecutive clean sheet in a match where the Tigers offered very little in terms of attacking ability. Prodl has been a key figure at centre-half for the Hornets, with his strong aerial ability and ability to read the game testing even the best of attacks.

Miguel Britos – Another key to the success of the Hornets this season has been the Uruguayan defender Britos, who’s had to work very hard to impress the Watford faithful, following a difficult start having come to England after a spell in Serie A with Napoli. He had another strong game against Hull, in which Watford came out as narrow winners when Michael Dawson put through his own net after Roberto Peryera flicked on a cross. The result sees Hull remain in 18th position after a promising start to the campaign. Meanwhile Watford move into 7th position, above Manchester United among others. It’s a strong start after a tough run of fixtures for Watford.

Daley Blind – The versatile Dutchman has been in decent form under José Mourinho, but the same can’t be said for his side. As mentioned they were unable to break down a resilient and well-drilled Burnley side at the Theatre of Dreams. The Clarets failed to mount a serious challenge on David De Gea’s goal, but it seemed a matter of time until United hit the front, but it wouldn’t happen. José Mourinho has rarely struggled in the Premier League but will now be looking towards stars like Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimović to turn their fortunes around given their poor form.

Midfielders

Ilkay Gundogan – Having had to wait before making an impact at City, the former Dortmund midfielder has begun to make his mark on the side, with his fast-paced and intelligent style complementing both the style of the Premier League as well as that of City boss Pep Guardiola. The midfielder netted twice against West Brom in his side’s 4-0 win, as well as picking up an assist for Sergio Aguero in the process. The midfielder’s late runs were rewarded as he was able to coolly slot past Baggies keeper Ben Foster on two occasions. City seem to have bounced back, following a shaky run of form in all competitions. However, they will now face a tough match in the Champions League, as Barcelona visit the Etihad.

James McArthur – Crystal Palace played out a six-goal thriller when Liverpool travelled down to London for the Saturday evening fixture. The match saw Scotland midfielder James McArthur net twice with his head as his Eagles side went down 4-2 at the hands of a Liverpool side beginning to find some consistency under Jurgen Klopp. McArthur capitalised on a Dejan Lovren error to head past the onrushing Loris Karius, before heading past the German again. Palace seemed to be gaining momentum when Roberto Firmino put the game beyond doubt for the Reds. It’s a great result for Klopp’s men on a ground they have tended to struggle at in the past.

Eden Hazard – The Belgian has recaptured his early season form of late, leading his side into some strong form ahead of the upcoming international break. Having starred in his side’s demolition of Manchester United last week, he was yet again in fine form as Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners against a Southampton side who themselves had been in strong form heading into the clash. Hazard opened the scoring early, with some nice footwork opening up the Saints defence. This came before Diego Costa curled one past Fraser Forster to make it 2-0 to the Blues. It was another good win for Chelsea, as Antonio Conte seems to be putting together a strong side at Stamford Bridge.

Alexis Sanchéz – The Chilean yet again showed his class, stealing the show as Arsenal hit a poor Sunderland side for four. Sanchez himself opened the scoring with a flying header after a superb passing move. Sunderland were able to haul themselves level after Jermain Defoe converted a penalty after Petr Cech brought down Duncan Watmore as he raced in behind the Gunners defence. Arsenal then blitzed their North-East opponents with three goals in ten minutes, Sanchéz himself netting the fourth, after he controlled a bouncing ball in the penalty area before twisting and turning, only to prod past Jordan Pickford from no more than a yard out.

Forwards

Sergio Aguero – The Argentine magician was back to his best as city blitzed West Brom, netting a brace and picking up an assist for Ilkay Gundogan. Aguero opened the scoring, flashing past Ben Foster after receiving a pass from Gundogan. Aguero continued the scoring, picking up the ball with his back to goal, before turning and unleashing a fierce drive into the roof of the West Brom net. Barcelona come to town on Tuesday night, knowing that City will be looking for revenge after the 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Spanish champions a couple of weeks ago.

Wilfried Bony – Bony’s Stoke City career was really yet to take off since moving from Manchester City in summer, however the Ivorian was at his opportunistic best to notch a brace as the Potters defeated Bob Bradley’s Swansea City side, as they continue their superb form. Bony put Stoke in front, before Wayne Routledge equalised for the Swans with an impressive header. Stoke introduced Egyptian winger Ramadan Sobhi after Xherdan Shaqiri was forced off injured, and he jinked past defenders before squaring the ball only for Alfie Mawson to slam into his own net. Bony scored the killer goal against his former club to give Stoke a big three points.

Olivier Giroud – 22 minutes was all it took Giroud to notch a brace at the Stadium of Light. After coming on as a substitute, the Frenchman nodded Arsenal back in front straight away, from a Mesut Ozil corner. This was after he had already put one past keeper Jordan Pickford, giving Giroud two goals in five minutes. Giroud was able to expose further the defensive frailties that see Sunderland rooted to the foot of the table with just two points to their name this campaign. As a side who tend to thrive on impressive rescue missions, one would wonder whether the Black Cats may be out of luck on this occasion.
