Gameweek 10 Review – FPL Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 10 saw us pass the quarter stage of this Premier League season, and we aren’t much closer to answering the big questions at either end of the league table. This week saw a vital clash at the top as Manchester City travelled to Wembley to face Spurs. Prior to that, Manchester United had hosted Everton with Arsenal making the short journey to South London to face Crystal Palace. Watford hosted struggling Huddersfield while Newcastle made the long journey down to face Southampton. Anyway, here’s the FPL Updates Gameweek 10 Review…

Goalkeeper

Ederson – There was an eagerly anticipated clash at the top on Monday night as Manchester City and Spurs faced off at Wembley. Despite the pitch being more reminiscent of the NFL game that had taken place on the pitch not long before, it was Manchester City who hit the front early after Raheem Sterling capitalised on an error from Kieron Trippier to square for Riyad Mahrez to slot home. This would end up being the only goal, with both sides spurning good opportunities late on. It’s a big win for City, while Spurs will try and take positives from a relatively close game.

Defenders

Kiko Femenia – Despite not always enjoying a long-run in the side, Spanish full-back Kiko Femenia is up there with the best when it comes to attacking wing-backs in the Premier League. His Watford side continued to get early points on the board as they comfortably dispatched a Huddersfield side that look set to struggle again this season. Despite the best efforts of the Yorkshire side, David Wagner’s men would go down to brilliant goals from Roberto Pereyra and Gerard Delofeu, before Isaac Success added a late third.

Bruno Saltor – Brighton and Hove Albion played host to a Wolves side that had been in great form prior to a shock home loss to Watford last weekend. Chris Hughton’s side is based upon a solid back line and they impressed as they inflicted a second consecutive defeat on the newly-promoted side at the AMEX courtesy of a solitary Glenn Murray goal. The goal was assisted by veteran full-back Bruno, meaning that the pair became the oldest combined scorer and assister in Premier League history, surpassing Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, who had previously held the record.

Marcos Alonso – Chelsea were on fire as they visited a Burnley side that had struggled early on this season. Alvaro Morata netted early to secure his third in as many games for the Blues, before Ross Barkley doubled the advantage. Willian quickly followed up with a third before Ruben Loftus-Cheek rounded off the victory with a fourth. The emergence of Barkley and Loftus-Cheek is encouraging not only for the Blues faithful but also for England fans as Gareth Southgate looks at potential additions to his squad ahead of Novembers internationals.

Fabian Balbuena – West Ham United travelled to Leicester City on Saturday evening for what was sure to be a difficult test. However, they took the lead early on when Declan Rice headed across goal for Fabian Balbuena to attack. His first effort struck the post, but he was alert to slam in the rebound from close range. Mark Noble was then sent off for a lunge that will disappoint the West Ham skipper. Leicester knocked on the door and found a late leveller when Wilfried Ndidi’s effort deflected in off the afore mentioned Balbuena.

Midfielders

Ross Barkley – Most England fans will be delighted to see Ross Barkley seemingly reviving his career under Maurcio Sarri at Chelsea this season. He found the net for a second consecutive league match as his side hammered Burnley at Turf Moor. The Blues might just be sleeping title contenders after their excellent start to the season. They find themselves just two points behind joint leaders Manchester City and Liverpool, having already played several difficult matches this season. Blues fans might just be starting to wonder whether they could make it a third title in five years under the Italian.

Luka Milivojevic – Palace fans have had to endure a poor start to the season, and the arrival of an Arsenal side on the longest winning streak in English football would have left Eagles fans despairing. However, their side flew out of the blocks and went in front when Luka Milivojevic converted from the spot after Cheikhou Kouyate was felled. However, the Gunners hit back when Granit Xhaka levelled, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued his superb form to turn the match on its head. However, when Wilf Zaha was brought down late on, Milivojevic stepped up again to power in a late leveller to halt Unai Emery’s side’s brilliant run.

Sadio Mané & Mo Salah – It’s no shock to FPL managers to see these two Liverpool stars in the review. They were both on form as Liverpool dispatched Cardiff City 4-1 at Anfield. Salah opened the scoring after ten minutes and the Cardiff fans could have been forgiven for thinking it was going to be a long afternoon. However, it was a late flurry that would seal the points as Sadio Mané scored two stunning goals either side of a Callum Paterson consolation. Xherdan Shaqiri also netted to give the Reds a resounding 4-1 win in front of the home crowd.

Ryan Fraser – One player who has really shone this season is Ryan Fraser, and the little Scotsman’s performances have contributed massively to Bournemouth’s superb start to this Premier League season. He was again on form as the Cherries brushed Fulham aside at Craven Cottage on Saturday. The defeat sees Fulham remain in the relegation zone after a poor start to the season. Cottagers fans may be wondering where exactly the £100 million in transfer fees has been spent after an eagerly anticipated return to England’s top flight.

Forwards

Callum Wilson – One of the Premier League’s leading marksmen so far this season in AFC Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson, who has yet again hit the ground running at the start of a season. He opened the scoring after just fourteen minutes against Fulham, converting from the spot after he was brought down by Tim Fosu-Mensah. It would take a further hour to double the lead, with David Brooks finishing well to end the contest. The home side weren’t helped when Kevin McDonald saw red just seconds later. Bournemouth rubbed salt in the wound when Wilson added his second and his side’s third.
