Gameweek 12 Review – FPL Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 12 gave Premier League sides the opportunity to go into the international break on the back of a win. It all kicked off when struggling Cardiff City hosted Brighton and Hove Albion in the Welsh capital on Saturday. Later that day Watford would make the journey to the south coast to face Southampton, while Newcastle hosted Bournemouth at St. James’ Park. Elsewhere, Burnley travelled to Leicester, before Palace hosted Spurs in the late kick-off. The weekend would be rounded off by the Manchester derby, in an eagerly anticipated clash.

Anyway, here’s the FPL Updates Gameweek 12 Review…

Goalkeeper

Joe Hart – It’s been a tough few years for former England number one Joe Hart. The former Manchester City stopper was first farmed out on loan by Pep Guardiola in favour of Claudio Bravo, before an unsuccessful spell at West Ham left Premier League fans asking if his best days were behind him. Unsurprisingly, eyebrows were raised when Hart made the move to Turf Moor in summer, given the wealth of ability that Burnley possess in that position. However, the former Shrewsbury man looks to have made the number one shirt his own and starred as Burnley ground out a 0-0 draw at Leicester on Saturday.

Defenders

Juan Foyth – Argentine defender Juan Foyth endured something of a nightmare debut in the Premier League, giving away two penalties as his Spurs side clung on to secure a 3-2 win over Wolves last weekend. However, he once again started as Mauricio Pochettino’s men looked to continue their best start to a Premier League season. So, it would be fitting that late on it would be Foyth who headed home as the ball hung loose in the penalty area late on to give his side all 3 points. Spurs will be delighted to take all three points at a ground that can be a hard place to visit.

Andy Robertson & Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool hosted Fulham on Sunday at Anfield with many a neutral fearing for the Cottagers after a poor start to the season. While they would return to London empty handed, they may feel slightly aggrieved with the nature of Liverpool’s first goal. After Alexander Mitrovic had a goal questionably disallowed, Allisson got the ball forward. However, the ball appeared to be moving, which left Fulham’s fans visibly angered when Mo Salah slotted home on the break. Xherdan Shaqiri added a second in a match that Slavisa Jokanovic’s side may look back on saying ‘what if?’

Sol Bamba – A popular figure wherever he’s been in England, this season saw a Premier League debut campaign for former Leeds United and Leicester centre-half Sol Bamba. An imposing figure at the heart of Cardiff City’s defence this season, he provided the decisive moment as Neil Warnock’s side snatched a home win over Brighton and Hove Albion right at the death. In a tight match the ball bounced around in the Albion area, where Bamba attempted a bicycle kick that struck the post, but it came back to the towering defender to smash home into the roof of the net and spark wild scenes.

Lewis Dunk – On a personal level it’s been a successful season for Brighton and Hove Albion centre-half Lewis Dunk. Having scored in consecutive games the Seagulls stalwart was drafted into Gareth Southgate’s last England squad, before receiving another call up for the matches against Croatia and the USA. Dunk found the net against Cardiff on Saturday, getting on the end of a poorly defended set-piece to nod home past a helpless Neil Etheridge. However, the goal wouldn’t be enough to prevent his side from suffering defeat on the road.

Midfielders

Callum Paterson – Cardiff sealed the signing of Hearts full-back Callum Paterson prior to their promotion season of last campaign. He seems to play everywhere but his original position these days and led the line for the Bluebirds on Saturday in their win over Brighton. With his side 1-0 down, the Scotland international got on the end of a brilliant delivery from Kadeem Harris to nod in from close range, before his presence in the penalty area late on helped the ball to Sol Bamba to fire home a stoppage time winner.

Ivan Cavaleiro – Wolverhampton Wanderers travelled to London on Sunday afternoon to face an Arsenal side that look set to challenge for a top four place. However, the midlands side took the game to the Gunners and will be wondering how they only left with a point. Ivan Cavaleiro opened the scoring for Nuno Santo’s side as he slotted home past Bernd Leno. Leno was in inspired form, and a series of brilliant saves allowed Henrikh Mkhitaryan to equalise late on. There was still time for teenage sensation Morgan Gibbs-White to hammer to bar with a stunning effort in the closing stages of injury time.

Bernardo Silva – Manchester City have a wealth of options in the final third, and it was Portugal international Bernardo Silva that impressed this week as his side triumphed over Manchester United at Eastlands. However, it would be David Silva that broke the deadlock, smashing in from close range, before Sergio Aguero smashed into the top corner past David De Gea to double the advantage. A penalty from Anthony Martial gave the away side hope of a comeback, before Ilkay Gundogan controlled and slotted home to complete a 44-pass move.

Forwards

Salomon Rondon – It’s rare to see a Newcastle United forward featuring in the review, however they ran out 2-1 winners over AFC Bournemouth at St. James’ on Saturday. They opened the scoring when Salomon Rondon slotted home after good work from DeAndre Yedlin down the right. The Venezuelan doubled his and his side’s advantage when he powered a header in still in the first half. Jefferson Lerma scored his first goal in English football to pull one back for the Cherries, but it wouldn’t be enough to prevent the Magpies picking up a priceless victory.

Manolo Gabbiadini – Another rarity in the review would be a Southampton forward, yet the Saints managed a 1-1 draw against strong-starters Watford at St. Mary’s in a match that might have yielded more. Italian forward Manolo Gabbiadini put the South-coast side in front when he struck home twenty minutes in. They should have had a second, but Charlie Austin’s strike was wrongly adjudged to have gone in off Maya Yoshida, prompting an offside call from the linesman. It would come back to bite Mark Hughes’ side when José Holebas strike deflected in late for the Hornets to rescue a point.
