Gameweek 21 FPL Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 21 would see the final round of fixtures of 2017, and we weren’t short of shocks and late drama. Swansea would travel to Watford for their first match under new manager Carlos Carvalhal. Under pressure Stoke boss Mark Hughes would see his side travel to Stamford Bridge to face a weakened Chelsea side. Manchester United hosted Southampton at Old Trafford in Saturday’s late match. Unbeaten Manchester City travelled to face Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve, and it wasn’t simple for Guardiola’s side. Anyway, here’s the FPL Updates Gameweek 21 FPL Review…

Goalkeeper

Ederson – Manchester City travelled to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace in a match that they were strong favourites for. While they largely dominated, Crystal Palace did create several chances. Andros Townsend spurned a late chance, firing over from Wilfried Zaha’s low cross. There were four players taken off through injury, with Gabriel Jesus and Scott Dann looking like they may have suffered serious injuries. Palace would have the chance to end City’s unbeaten start to the season when they were awarded a penalty when Raheem Sterling brought down Zaha. Luka Milivojevic stepped up, but saw his penalty saved by Ederson.

Defenders

Antonio Rudiger – Chelsea ran out comfortable winners as they trounced Mark Hughes’ sorry Stoke side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Antonio Rudiger opened the scoring for the Blues when he headed in from a Willian freekick after just three minutes. The German has been a regular for the blues since he signed from Roma in summer for a fee of £30 million. He will be looking to secure a place in Germany’s world cup squad, and in his current form it doesn’t look unlikely. The pressure mounts on Mark Hughes, whose side are just two points clear of the drop zone.

Gaetan Bong – Brighton and Hove Albion travelled to St. James’ Park looking to record a win against an out-of-form Newcastle side. It’s been a struggle for Rafa Benitez’s side of late, with a struggling frontline. They pushed Manchester City all the way in midweek, going down to a solitary Raheem Sterling goal in the end. In a game of few chances neither side could find the illusive goal to snatch all three points. Glenn Murray missed one of the better chances in the first half, in a match which may well leave both bosses frustrated.

Christopher Schindler – It’s fair to say it wasn’t exactly a classic at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday. Despite the best efforts of both sides neither could find a winner in a match that won’t live long in the memory. The main talking point was the failure of the referee to award Burnley a second half penalty when Jonas Lossl came flying out and appeared to bring down Jeff Hendrick. Despite clear contact the referee waved away the appeals of the away fans, while the Terriers faithful held their collective breath.

Phil Jones – In a day with several stalemates we would have another at Old Trafford in the day’s late match as Jose Mourinho’s side played host to a Southampton side looking to bounce back from a hammering at the hands of Spurs last weekend. This time they would hold firm at the back, even in the absence of the Liverpool-bound Virgil van Dijk. The £75 million netted from his sale may well see Saints in a position to strengthen their side, and they may well need to, as they draw a blank going forward yet again.

Midfielders

Willian & Danny Drinkwater – Chelsea run riot against Stoke this gameweek with a 5-0 victory, with both Willian and Drinkwater scoring enough fantasy points to make it into this week’s dream team. Star man of the week, Willian, chipped in with a goal and 2 assists, scoring 17 points, whilst Drinkwater also scored a goal, earning himself 9 points.

Ryan Fraser – Bournemouth won 2-1 against Everton with both goals coming from the ‘wee man’ aka Ryan Fraser. This coupled with the max bonus gave the midfielder an impressive 15 points for the 0.4% that own him!

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool were 1 down against Leicester, but a brace from Mo Salah saw them victorious. Salah now has 17 goals and 7 assists so far this campaign and is a must have in Fantasy Premier League! That said, he did go off with a knock and is considered a doubt for their next fixture.

Luciano Narsingh – At the 85th minute, Swansea were 1-0 down against Watford, however with a goal from Ayew and another from Narsingh in extra time, Swansea secured the win.

Forwards

Jamie Vardy – The only striker in this week’s dream team is Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, who scored in their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool. This coupled with 3 bonus points earned himself a spot in the team.
