Chelsea – FPL Potential – Fantasy Football Tips

Last season Chelsea responded from a shocking 10th place finish with their 2nd title in 3 years. The Blues looked back to their best after switching tactics; which came about as a result of a poor start to the season with defeats against Liverpool and Arsenal. However, the change in system is going to bring a change in personnel this season, with Chelsea having already made some significant signings in this transfer window. The traditional two defensively minded centre midfielders that were used by Chelsea in their previously favoured 4-2-3-1 formation have become somewhat redundant and thus a certain Nemanja Matić has been allowed to miss the beginning of their pre-season tour, potentially to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Nemanja’s replacement has just been confirmed and consolidates that Chelsea are looking for box-to-box midfielders in their central roles, as Tiemoue Bakayoko has joined from AS Monaco. Bakayoko looks an exciting prospect at just 22 years of age, as he helped Monaco win the league and reach the Champions League semi-finals. With that said, Chelsea will most likely be looking to bring in more players before the start of the season, with Morata and Rudiger also joining The Blues recently.

STAR MAN – Marcos Alonso (7.0m)

For the sake of this being a pre-season article Eden Hazard will be taken out of consideration due to the fact that looks like he will miss the first month of the campaign through injury. The second highest scorer FPL wise for Chelsea last season was Diego Costa, but with the signing of Morata and the contract extension of Antonio Conte, it looks like the Spaniard will be leaving this summer.

The next stand out pick of last season was Marcos Alonso, who scored a grand total of 177 points during the 2016/17 campaign, achieving 6 goals, 5 assists and 15 clean sheets. Many may consider this to have been an incredible season and there is a possibility that he will struggle to repeat this, however with the signings that The Blues have made during the transfer window thus far, there is a strong possibility of not only repeating this, but improving this return. Priced at 7.0m, this could be considered a little bit steep for a defender, however with his spot in the team nailed down and with his ability to get those goals and assists, let alone clean sheets, he could be a brilliant addition to any fantasy team.

HIDDEN GEM – Victor Moses (6.5m)

There’s are not too many hidden gems in the Chelsea squad, however now classified as a defender, Victor Moses could really see a big points increase this season. Priced at 6.5m, Moses has a very similar style to that of Alonso, striding high up the pitch as a wing back, putting plenty of balls into the box and even getting on the end of the odd cross too! With the signing of Alvaro Morata, the returns of both Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso could be improved, with the Spaniard looking to impress at Chelsea and score from the off.

As mentioned Moses is now listed as a defender which gives him the ability to pick up those clean sheet points. There is one concern with Moses however, that Chelsea are currently rumoured to be in the market to improve this position with the likes of Danilo from Real Madrid identified as a potential target.

BARGAIN – Pedro (8.0m)

At just 8.0m, Pedro has to be the bargain of the team. With 9 goals and 10 assists in the 2016/17 season, he gave a great return for those fantasy managers that owned him, as we saw sparks of his Barcelona days. Previously mentioned Willian (7.0m) also may be a good pick if he appears to get a starting spot with the absence of Hazard, however once the Belgian is back he will most likely run the show.

Pedro managed to link up well with Hazard last season, as between them they scored 386 Fantasy Premier League points. Pedro’s first season with Chelsea was a bit of a flop, however his second (2016/17) showed some of the potential he has and really highlights how much of a prospect he could be this coming season.
