Fantasy Football Potential – Danny Drinkwater

The Champions Chelsea have added to their midfield with the signing of Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater for a fee believed to be around £35 million. The Englishman appears to be a replacement for Nathaniel Chalobah, who left earlier on in the transfer window.

Danny Drinkwater joins up with former team mate N’golo Kanté, whom he paired up with to help deliver Leicester’s unforgettable title winning campaign in the 2015/16 season. He particularly shone with his fantastic passing ability, which saw many assists for Jamie Vardy.

Here’s what Drinkwater had to say about his move;

“Leicester has been great for me but I am looking to carry on from the season before last when we won the Premier League there and I want to win more trophies, which Leicester have understood and where better to do it than Chelsea. I am at a good age now to kick on.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Drinkwater was originally priced at 5.0m on FPL, but due to his lack of game time at the Foxes, the midfielder has been reduced to 4.9m, making him cheaper than any other Chelsea midfielder. However I believe, he won’t get that much game time with Chelsea unless they suffer any suspensions or injuries.

Last season Drinkwater notched up just 69 points on FPL and a main reason for this low score was due to the loss of Kanté, so now the pair are back together, will he rediscover the form of the 2015/16 season which saw him score 129 points, including 3 goals and 8 assists.

Chelsea’s next five fixtures are as follows: Leicester (A), Arsenal (H), Stoke (A), Manchester City (H) and Crystal Palace (A). Drinkwater starts his Chelsea career at his former club, but will more than likely not feature due to a thigh injury.
