Fantasy Football Potential – Fabinho

Liverpool have splashed the cash to sign Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, of which the fee is reported to be in the region of £40m from French side Monaco. The predominantly defensive midfielder can also play right back but wasn’t called up for Brazil for their World Cup campaign.

Liverpool apparently fended off Arsenal for Fabinho’s signature and you can see why. He has 22 goals in 105 Ligue 1 appearances whilst being a Monaco player. He had a loan spell there and scored just once in 62 games so he’s clearly improving.

Fabinho said this about his move:

“I am really excited about this move. This is something that I always wanted – this is a giant of a team. The infrastructures of the club look exceptional. A football club of this size coming after my services, I didn’t have to think that much about coming over.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (6.0m)

When it comes to FPL potential, defensive minded midfielders aren’t usually very useful however Fabinho bucks that trend as his scoring record is around 1 in 5. His record was is mainly so good because he was on penalty duty in France, meaning there will be question marks if he will take over duties at his new club.

The 24 year old has 4 caps for his national team but as mentioned above, he isn’t on the plane to Russia. This may play into Liverpool and FPL managers hands as he will be fresh when the seasons comes around.

I expect him to be £6.5m on FPL as his potential from the penalty spot will drive his price above other defensive midfielders. I could envisage having a similar first season in the Premier League to Crystal Palace midfielder Luka Milivojevic and be a decent FPL differential.
