Fantasy Football Potential – Nemanja Matic

Title chasers Manchester United have spent big again this transfer window with the acquisition of defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic. The fee is believed to be £40 million for the Serbian who is linking up again with manager Jose Mourinho and former team mate at Benfica, Victor Lindelof who joined the Red Devils earlier in the transfer window.

The 29-year-old has won a number of club and individual honours including league titles with Benfica and most recently Chelsea last season, but with the signing of Bakayoko, Nemanja Matic would have found himself out of favour at the Champions.

Jose Mourinho said:

“Nemanja is a Manchester United player and a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player.

Nemanja Matic said:

“I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

Fantasy Football Potential

Despite being a defensive midfielder, which in fantasy football can be a major put off, Matic racked up over a century of FPL points and is the highest points scorer priced at 5.0m and below. He scored just once last season in the Premier League, but he does have a great long shot in the locker as Tottenham found out in the FA Cup semi final last season. He also claimed 8 assists throughout the season which is a healthy amount for such a cheap midfielder, and could be utilised as a 4th or 5th midfielder for your FPL team.

The addition of Matic to Manchester United’s squad will not only improve his potential, but Paul Pogba now seems to be a very interesting choice as the Frenchman may now be released to play further forward.

Manchester United’s opening fixtures are as follows; West Ham (H), Swansea (A), Leicester (H), Stoke (A) and Everton (H). These fixtures look encouraging for any Manchester United player to score a sufficient amount of points, including Matic.
