Fantasy Football Potential – Steve Mounie

Huddersfield have secured the services of Benin international striker Steve Mounie, who joins the club from French side Montpellier for a fee believed to be around £11 million. That high fee makes it Huddersfield’s club record signing which previously was held by Aaron Mooy.

Steve Mounie bagged a respectable 15 goals last season for Montpellier, also providing 3 assists in the process. However the 22 year old faded away at the end of the season, scoring just 1 in his last 9 Ligue 1 appearances.

Huddersfield manager David Wagner says

“He has a very exciting combination of attributes that makes his a very attractive proposition as a young striker. He has real physical attributes that should be perfect for the Premier League, plus we have already seen his talents as a football in his remarkable season in France.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Steve Mounie stands at 6ft 3 tall, so he will be playing in the target man role for Huddersfield. He is priced at 6.0m on Fantasy Premier League and could prove to be a good option for a 3rd striker, if Huddersfield can get a good start in the Premier League.

He is selected by just 0.5% of FPL managers and his price makes him the most expensive Huddersfield player, which may put off people from putting him in their teams. Overall, I wouldn’t risk picking him until he has played and adapted in the Premier League.

Huddersfield’s opening fixtures are as follows; Crystal Palace (A), Newcastle (H), Southampton (H), West Ham (A) and Leicester (H). Every game will be difficult for the Terriers, but these look as favourable as they will come and they’ll need to pick up at least half a dozen points from these fixtures if they are to survive.
