Fantasy Football Potential – Theo Walcott

Everton have made the impressive signing of Arsenal winger Theo Walcott for a fee in the region of £20 million. He becomes the Toffees second January signing after the purchase of striker Cenk Tosun. Walcott leaves Arsenal after over a decade at the club, but looks for game time elsewhere for an outside chance of going to the World Cup.

The English winger has been capped numerous times for his country but has failed to cement a place in Arsène Wenger’s starting eleven over the past couple of years. Before joining the Merseyside club, he had played only six games in the Premier League totally an amount of just 63 minutes.

Walcott said “The Club has won trophies but I want them to win trophies now. The manager is very hungry and it’s just what I need. I’ve had a couple of chats with him and straightaway I felt that hunger and that desire that he wanted from me. I need that and I wanted that.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential

Walcott was originally priced at 7.5m but due to his lack of game time has slumped to 7.1m, making him all the more tempting to bring in. In his first game in an Everton shirt he started and provided an assist in a disappointing 1-1 draw against second bottom West Brom.

Despite Everton not hitting the heights of previous seasons, I strongly believe that Walcott could become a great asset in FPL. If he can keep his place in Sam Allardyce’s team then he could reach a healthy amount of goals and assists.

Everton’s next five fixtures are as follows: Leicester (H), Arsenal (A), Crystal Palace (H), Watford (A) and Burnley (A). After their difficult match at the Emirates, Everton’s run of games turn very favourable which may lead to Tosun finally becoming a decent FPL option.
