Markus Suttner – Fantasy Football Potential

Brighton have raided German side Ingolstadt for another player, but this time in the form of Austrian full back Markus Suttner for an undisclosed fee.

Manager Chris Hughton is delighted with the experienced defender and had this to say about Markus Suttner:

“Markus is someone we have been aware of for some time.”

“He has a great level of experience internationally, and in the top divisions in both his native Austria and Germany, where he has played the last two seasons with Ingolstadt, and that will serve us well.”

Fantasy Football Potential

Suttner who can play in both left back or left midfield, made 31 appearances last season for Ingolstadt scoring 4 goals and created 5 assists. With key attributes such as taking set pieces, interceptions, long shots and crossing, he could be a solid signing for Brighton in their first season in the Premier League.

However, Suttner’s high defensive contributions means he gives fouls away and often gets booked for his challenges, as he gained 10 yellow cards in the 2016/17 season. With a passing percentage of 60% he definitely needs to improve as this could prove costly for Brighton.

For Fantasy Premier League managers, it would be worth keeping an eye out for Markus Suttner in Brighton’s opening games as he has the potential of creating an impact similar to Christian Fuchs of Leicester. Whilst taking set pieces he could potentially gather a lot of points, but also Brighton may concede far too many and his defensive errors may prove costly in the long run.

Priced at 4.5m on FPL he could end up being a bargain, but Stoke’s opening fixtures are as follows: Man City (H), Leicester (A), Watford (A), West Brom (H) and Bournemouth (A). Therefore it may be worth steering clear for the first few gameweeks.
