Mathias Jorgensen – Fantasy Football Potential

Huddersfield Town continue to bolster their squad as they look to make a solid first impression in the premier league to fight against relegation. They now sign 27-year-old Central defender Mathias Jorgensen from Danish club FC Copenhagen for a fee of £2.3 million.

Here’s what Town’s manager David Wagner said about Mathias Jorgensen:

“Mathias is another very good signing for our club. He is a very complete defender with great experience of being successful in every league he has played in, which served us well with the signings we made last season too. His athleticism and football intelligence will be big assets in the Premier League, for sure, and he is a super professional character, which will fit in with our current group of players very well.

“This deal makes total sense for us because Jon Stankovic is out of action until Christmas.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential:

Jorgensen was captain of his former club Copenhagen before moving to PSV Eindhoven in 2012 and he has also played 7 times for the Danish national side. The centre back also has played for FC Copenhagen in Champions league qualifying stages scoring 2 goals.

In the 2016/17 season Mathias Jorgensen made a total of 44 appearances scoring 2 goals and getting 13 yellow cards. Understandably as a defender he is prone to fouls and that’s a stat Fantasy Premier League managers will need to be wary of. However, he is a big unit at 6ft 2 inches and will be very much up to the physical challenge of the Premier League coming up against the likes of Romelu Lukaku, which will be an interesting watch.

In my opinion Jorgensen will be around 4.5m to 5.0m in FPL as a new signing and not a marquee player. However, there is a potential that he will be 1 of 2 starting centre back’s with the only competition coming from the likes of: Michael Hefele and Jon Stankovic (currently injured).

Huddersfield’s opening fixtures are as follows; Crystal Palace (A), Newcastle United (H), Southampton (H), West Ham (A) & Leicester (H)
