Fantasy Football Potential – Terence Kongolo

Huddersfield Town have spent a record fee for Dutch defender Terence Kongolo from French side AS Monaco. Kongolo’s fee is in the region of £15 million and joins the Terriers after a successful loan spell at the Premier League side last season where he played 13 league games.

Whilst at boyhood club Feyenoord he won the Eredevise in the 2016/17, and his performances there earned him his move to Monaco which unfortunately didn’t work out. Beforehand he was part of the Netherlands squad to come third place in the 2014 World Cup.

David Wagner commented:

“I’m so happy that we’ve brought Terence back as a permanent Huddersfield Town player ahead of the 2018/19 Premier League season. His signing is a big statement for this Club. We knew he was a top, top player when we brought him in on loan in January; you don’t play for the Netherlands in a World Cup and win the Dutch league with Feyenoord otherwise.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (4.5m)

Kongolo joined last season in January and certainly sured up the defence playing either left or centre back. He kept two clean sheets in the 13 games earning him 30 points overall for the season, two of which also coming from bonus points.

His £4.5m price tag makes him the same as every other Huddersfield defender, bar Scott Malone who probably won’t start next season. He is a decent option at £4.5m, but I’m afraid there is a few better options out there, like Charlie Daniels and Cedric.

Huddersfield’s first five fixtures are as follows: Chelsea (H), Manchester City (A), Cardiff (H), Everton (A) and Crystal Palace (H). It’s a tough beginning for Huddersfield but the games after do make some Huddersfield players like Kongolo more intriguing.
