Gameweek 23 Captaincy Analysis

The FA Cup break has passed and we are now back into the regularity of Premier League football. Before we take a look at some of the options for the captain’s armband for gameweek 23, we will briefly reflect on our picks from gameweek 22:

1. Angel Di Maria- 3 Points

2. Eden Hazard – 3 Points

Differential – Stewart Downing – 11 points

Gamble – Alexis Sanchez- 3 Points

After what seems like forever, gameweek 23 is fast approaching and like we do every week let’s examine the main options for your armband.

Updated – as Sanchez and Costa have both been more or less ruled out of this Gameweek we have changed the captaincy picks somewhat:

1. Olivier Giroud (AVL)

With some of the top teams facing tough fixtures this week Arsenal have a chance to continue their good form against a sorry looking Aston Villa who have scored just 11 Premier League goals all season which means an Arsenal win is likely on Sunday. With Sanchez likely to be rested this game, Wenger will look to Giroud to lead the attack against Aston Villa.

2. Di Maria (LEI)

Although Di Maria has been poor since his return from injury a home game against bottom of the table Leicester could just be the catalyst to inspire the United midfielder to show the magic we have become accustomed to seeing. Overall Di Maria is a good option for your captaincy.

Differential – Graziano Pellé (SWA)

The Italian’s form has been indifferent since his blistering start to the season but he has continued to provide a steady stream of goals for the surprise package of the season. Things have gone slightly downhill for the South Wales team since the departure of Wilfred Bony and their task of challenging Southampton will not be made any easier by the suspension of their playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson. A good gamble if you are looking to climb the rankings!

Gamble – Eden Hazard (MCI)

With Costa neon suspended, Mourinho and Chelsea will be looking for someone to step up to the plate and put in a great performance. The only downside to captaining the Belgian is the fact Chelsea have a big game at home to Manchester City and you feel if Chelsea win, they will go on to win the title. Because of this I think Hazard will be fired up and score big on Saturday night.
