PRE-SEASON ANALYSIS – Manchester City

MCI

The start of the 2013/2014 season saw a new manager at Manchester City in Manuel Pellegrini, an it ended in two trophies which should be considered as a successful maiden season. City’s form was excellent throughout the season with talk about a possible quadruple around the new year.

City benefited throughout the season from star performances from big players such as Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and more. This season however they will be wanting to at least match the heights of last season and will be striving to do even better.

STAR MAN – Yaya TOURE

Yaya Toure had a crucial role in Manchester City regaining their title, and was prolific throughout, scoring 20 and 9 assists. The Ivorian was the highest scoring player in Fantasy Premier League over the course of the season, and therefore no team should be drafted without the consideration of the City player. There was some speculation that Yaya Toure was not happy at City after they forgot to wish him happy birthday, which led to further speculation he would be leaving. However, he has now committed his future with the Manchester club, and at 11.0m he seems to be priced somewhat fairly as the highest scorer.

HIDDEN GEM – Matija NASTASIC

The centre half missed out on a lot of last season through injury, however the season before he announced himself as one of the brightest prospects in defence for Manchester City and also the Premier league. Now he is back fit and raring to go he could state his place in the team. Last season he managed to keep 4 clean sheets in 13 games, compared to 11 in 21 games during the 2012/2013 season. At 5.5m he is one of the cheaper Manchester City defenders and could be in contention in many Fantasy Football teams if he gets on that starting team sheet more regularly.
