Captaincy Analysis – Gameweek 22 FPL Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Welcome to another Fantasy Premier League captaincy analysis for the upcoming gameweek 22. Here we will examine a few of the stand-out FPL captaincy picks, but before we do it’s time to take a quick look back at our picks from last week.

It was a very low scoring week with very few of the big hitters performing.

1. Diego Costa- 2 points

2. Mesut Ozil- 2 points

3. Odion Ighalo- 2 points

Differential – Dimitri Payet- 11 points

Gamble – Romelu Lukaku- 2 points

So the returning Payet was by far the best pick this week but now it’s time to look forward to the main order of business.

1. Harry Kane (SUN)

The Spurs forward has been quite inconsistent this season but has still managed a decent total and is always a strong FPL option. This week Spurs host a Sunderland side who are improving under Sam Allardyce but still they look fragile at the back, their 4-2 win over Swansea an example of simply ‘outscoring your opponent’. Spurs are an exciting outfit so you’d expect them to bounce back from defeat with their front-man getting on the score-sheet. A very clear captaincy option.

2. Riyad Mahrez (AVL)

Mahrez hasn’t quite scaled the heights we’ve expected over the past few weeks but if you consider their horrendous run of fixtures and a busy Christmas schedule this is quite understandable. Leicester travel to Villa park to play a Midlands derby with a lot resting on it for both sides, Aston Villa have been awful this season and despite winning only their second game of the season on Tuesday will probably return to normal on Saturday with Leicester reaffirming why they are true title challengers in a commanding away victory. Many are expecting Mahrez to fire Leicester to victory on Saturday night so are giving him the armband. A very good captaincy option.

3. Sergio Aguero (CRY)

Aguero is one of those players who FPL managers feel an affinity towards. As soon as it is revealed he is fit to play after one of his many injuries, managers will immediately flock to bring him in. Sometimes I question why this is and the answer lies in the memories of matches like his 5 goal haul against Newcastle back in gameweek 8. Managers know what Aguero is capable of so he will always be captained by a large proportion of bosses. Crystal Palace have been poor lately so Aguero may well get on the score-sheet. A risk but certainly worthy of consideration.

Differential – Dimitri Payet (NEW)

After his performance at Bournemouth it’s fair to say the Frenchman is ‘back’. At the time of writing this Payet is owned by just over 10% of managers so I’ll consider him a differential even if by the time you read this his ownership has risen. The Hammers travel to Tyneside to face Newcastle which is never an easy game but from what we’ve seen of him, Payet can perform well against any side. Payet is a very good option and very rarely lets you down but it’s worth considering he’s unlikely to be a differential pick come the deadline.

Gamble – Wayne Rooney (LIV)

Wayne Rooney put in a performance which rolled back the years at St James’ park on Wednesday as he came away with 2 goals and an assist, following on from goals in his previous 2 games. After a disappointing season Rooney and his manager will be hoping that his decent scoring run continues in what is likely to be a heated affair at Anfield on Sunday. A big risk but a master stroke if it comes off.

So that concludes our captaincy analysis, all that’s left to say now is thanks for reading and good luck with gameweek 22!
