Champions League Fantasy Football - Premier Punt

So, we did struggle with the budget a bit, but we have managed to pull a team together. To start things off we have banked on two clean sheets from two teams, Group B & C table-toppers Wolfsburg & Athletico Madrid, who have fixtures against KAA Gent and PSV respectively. Hopefully, they can give us a good start with a few clean sheets. Our two from Wolfsburg are Casteels, as usual first choice Benaglio seems to be out injured with a “rib bruise”, and Jung, who has made 3 appearances as well as picking up an assist in the Champions League so far this season. Our two from Athletico Madrid on the other hand are Jose Gimenez, who featured in 5 of the 6 games in the group stage, and ex Chelsea man Filipe Luis. Hopefully he grabs a start in his game against PSV.

In the middle of the park we have gone with some familiar faces and some players that could be key differentials for us. First up is Xabi Alonso. He has made 4 appearances in the Champions League so far this season and will be hoping to make that 5 in the big tie against Juventus. Unfortunately he has been unable to grab any goals or assists but we know he has it in him. We have a very similar scenario for our next midfield who faces off against a visiting Chelsea side. Motta will be hoping for a good result to take to Stamford Bridge for the second leg in a couple of weeks time. Next we have Roma’s Daniele De Rossi. After his side conceded 16 goals in the group stage, they will be looking to put in a better performance but this won’t be easy as Madrid are coming to town. The good stat going for Rossi is that he has picked up 2 Champions League goals already this season. Penultimately in the middle, we have Daniel Caligiuri who will be looking to add to his 1 goal and 1 assist from his 6 group stage appearances so far. Gent seem to provide the perfect opportunity for him to do so so fingers crossed he can find the net! To finish off our midfield 5, we have another ex Chelsea man in the form of Yuri Zhirkov. He joined Zenit in the January transfer window and we back him to grab a starting position when they welcome Benfica in the first leg of the last 16.

Finally up top we couldn’t resist picking two of arguably the best players available in the shape of Neymar and Ronaldo! We would have liked Suarez or Messi, however our budget restricted us, so in comes Neymar who also takes the captain’s armband this week. Neymar has been prolific this season, bagging 17 goals and 13 assists in La Liga. His Champions League record to date this season isn’t too bad either with 2 goals and 3 assists from 5 group stage games. Ronaldo is running away with the golden boot so far in the Champions League this season with a goal on average every 49 minutes. That is 11 goals and 3 assists from his 6 appearances in the group stage.

Note: Team is subject to change. May the best Fantasy Football manager win!
