Gameweek 17 Preview – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 16 brought some interesting team selections for a few teams. The exclusion of De Bruyne and Kolarov from the Manchester City starting line up was the deadliest of them, especially to the FPL managers who captained KDB. We also saw Leicester remain top with a win, consequently, Chelsea dropping to 16th. Let’s hope this gameweek 17 is as good if not better…

CHESUN

Chelsea vs Sunderland

Chelsea. What has gone wrong this season. 16th in the league! They’ve lost 9 times this season, the most recent of all coming in arguably the best MNF this season. A 2-1 defeat to table toppers Leicester. Sunderland are also in a bit of a mess at the moment. With 2 losses in a row under their belt, it is not looking too great for them to avoid relegation under ‘Big Sam’.

Star Man – Willian (6.9m)

The only really shining light in Chelsea’s disappointing season.

Prediction – Chelsea 2-0 Sunderland

EVELIE

Everton vs Leicester City

Everton, just like Leicester, have got a very good goal scorer in their ranks, Romelu Lukaku, who is selected by over half the FPL population. However they haven’t won in 3 games which they have all drawn. Leicester have certainly been the shock team this season. 16 games in and their still top of the league, and 9 points away from 5th! Their 2-1 victory against Chelsea on Monday summed up their sensational start to the season.

Star Man – Riyad Mahrez (6.9m)

The Algerian has been consistent throughout the whole of this season.

Prediction – Everton 2-2 Leicester City

MUNNOR

Manchester United vs Norwich

Manchester United and Louis van Gaal have been under scrutiny since the latest bad result at newly promoted Bournemouth. They have also been labelled boring from their own fans which is clearly not a good sign. Norwich are also a team in a bit of a rut but they may have turned a corner after getting a well earned draw against Everton, which they could have won.

Star Man – Juan Mata (8.6m)

Hasn’t got into full flow yet this season but could do possibly against a poor Norwich side.

Prediction – Manchester United 2-0 Norwich

SOUTOT

Southampton vs Tottenham

Another tale of 2 teams whom are struggling for victories. Southampton haven’t really had the hardest of fixture lists but they haven’t grabbed enough points in recent games and Tottenham will certainly not be easy. Tottenham, despite only losing twice this season have found themselves still outside the Champions League spots, which is certainly their objective this season.

Star Man – Erik Lamela (6.8m)

In very good form recently, including a first half hat-trick in the Europa League.

Prediction – Southampton 1-2 Tottenham

STKCRY

Stoke City vs Crystal Palace

Now a tale of 2 teams who are bang on form. Firstly Stoke, who after bouncing off a 2-0 home victory to Man City, secured a solid 0-0 away to West Ham. Crystal Palace are also doing well recently. 7 points in their last 3 games with 7 goals is nothing to shy at. Yannick Bolasie has been on fire and with French midfield maestro Yohan Cabaye looking like a great buy in the summer Palace look very strong this season.

Star Man – Marko Arnautovic (6.1m)

Palace struggle to defend set pieces, and the Austrian is a goal threat from those situations.

Prediction – Stoke 1-1 Crystal Palace

WBABOU

West Brom vs Bournemouth

West Brom have just gone through a very tough run of games; home to Arsenal and Tottenham and away at Leicester. From these games, they managed 3 well earned draws in the process. Bournemouth are on a massive high themselves after defeating both Chelsea and Manchester United consecutively. This may make the West Brom game considerably harder as the players would’ve put everything into those games and lack fitness for this game.

Star Man – Solomon Rondon (6.6m)

Bournemouth may struggle to defend against the physical Venezuelan.

Prediction – West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth

NEWAVL

Newcastle vs Aston Villa

Newcastle are very similar to Bournemouth in a way as they have defeated 2 teams who are in Europe this season after struggling before hand albeit slightly flukey. Aston Villa fans may have thought after Remi Garde’s appointment they’d be flying back up the league table, oh how much they are wrong, currently. They’ve shown no real goal threat in recent games and have had their backs to the wall at most times.

Star Man – Georginio Wijnaldum (6.9m)

Looked good at Tottenham and should have Alan Hutton on toast.

Prediction – Newcastle 2-0 Aston Villa

WATLIV

Watford vs Liverpool

Watford are on a 2 game win streak. Those wins coming against a struggling Norwich side and away at another struggling side in Sunderland, with Ighalo finding himself on the scoresheet once again in both of those highlighted games. Liverpool have found life difficult recently after 2 poor results against (struggling at the time) Newcastle and mid table West Brom. However they haven’t played as bad as the results have shown.

Star Man – Troy Deeney (5.2m)

Liverpool conceded from 2 set pieces against West Brom and Deeney is very good in the air.

Prediction – Watford 1-1 Liverpool

SWAWHU

Swansea vs West Ham

Swansea are currently looking for a new manager after, in my opinion, a harsh and unfair sacking of devoted manager and former player Garry Monk. They would have snatched a point away at Man City if it wasn’t for a defected goal credited to Nigerian international Iheanacho. West Ham have been hit by injuries recently and attacking wise have been shortened significantly. One player who did shine against Stoke was former Sheffield Wednesday and Notts Forest wingers Michail Antonio.

Star Man – Michail Antonio (5.2m)

Played well against Stoke and is very cheap for an attacking midfielder in a decent team.

Prediction – Swansea 1-2 West Ham

ARSMCI

Arsenal vs Manchester City

Another very good Monday Night Football in store with 2 giants of English football coming together. Arsenal are now 2nd in the league and flying high after a solid win against a very poor Aston Villa side who are destined to go down. Manchester City have been shaky the last couple of games. After a Stoke away defeat they scraped through 2-1 victors at managerless Swansea.

Star Man – Theo Walcott (8.3m)

Man City defenders very much struggle against quick players and Walcott is certainly one.

Prediction – Arsenal 2-1 Manchester City
