Gameweek 18 Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 18 was on Boxing Day and this saw a marathon day of football, with 10 Premier League fixtures in the one day, which is most fantasy premier league managers dream! Without further ado, here is how the Boxing Day FPL dream team ended up:

Dream team gameweek 18

Goalkeeper

Jack Butland – Who else? Jack has clearly been this season’s best keeper and must be taking that England spot between the sticks! This gameweek he proved this once again with a clean sheet against a struggling Manchester United squad. Coupled along with 6 saves and one bonus point earned him a spot in the team of the week.

Defenders

Cuco Martina – This week, the Saints defender was the first player from Curaçao to score in the Premier League, and what a goal it was! A sublime strike with the outside of the boot, a clean sheet and bonus points saw him secure a place in the FPL dream team with a total of 13 points.

Jose Fonte – The second Southampton defender position in this week’s dreamteam, sees Fonte feature after he also scored in the 4-0 defeat of Arsenal. The Saints skipper managed to earn fantasy managers a total of 15 points after a hard earned clean sheet and 3 bonus points!

Ben Davies – The ex Swansea defender has struggled somewhat to find a spot in the Spurs starting eleven, however whilst Danny Rose is out he is making the most of it! Helping Tottenham to a 3-0 win this week with an assist of his own, a clean sheet and two bonus points, he gave those few fantasy managers that do have him a total of 11 points!

Glen Johnson – The England defender joins hit counterpart Butland in the dream team, after he helped his team secure a 2-0 win over Manchester City with a clean sheet and an assist. Since joining from Liverpool he has managed to nail down a starting spot in the team and has shown some good from, with this week not being anything different; 11 points for the defender!

Midfielders

Kevin De Bruyne – Many midfielders scored few FPL points this week, however one of those that did was the one that many took out of their teams. Big Kevin De Bruyne provided 2 assists and grabbed himself a goal too, giving the Belgian 16 points.

Tom Cleverley – Newcastle vs Everton looked to be destined for a 0-0, however Cleverley brought the never die attitude from Manchester United to Everton and managed to score in what many may call ‘Fergie time’. Now playing at Everton, Cleverley scored with more or less the last touch of the match giving the Toffees 3 points and a crucial win in their season. 11 points in total for the Englishman as he also took the 3 bonus points home!

Sung-Yueng Ki – The Swans look to be on the up. After some poor form, they now have 4 points from the last 2 games. Ki has shown glimpses of class in a Swansea shirt over the past two seasons, but has often lacked a bit of consistency in fantasy football terms. This week however he managed to score the only goal of the game, giving the Welsh side a 1-0 win over West Brom.

Strikers

Harry Kane – The weather was apauling in some areas of the country, with some lower league fixtures being called off. However in London there was a HurriKane, as the Spurs forward grabbed a brace and with that secured all three bonus points.

Shane Long – The third Saints player in this week, sees Long with 12 points. Usually it’s Graziano Pelle in the dream team if it’s a Saints striker, however with him out of the team, Long stepped up to the plate, scoring 2 goals and grabbing 3 bonus points too.

Diego Costa – The love hate relationship with Costa continues, however for those who own him in fantasy football it was a lot more love this week than those in the past. Costa managed to score two crucial goals in a tough battle against Watford, which ended up being a 2-2 draw. Chelsea could have won, as they missed a penalty in the second half, however Costa ended up earning fantasy managers a total of 12 points and a suspension for next week!

We hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and be sure to share your fantasy teams with us!
