Gameweek 20 Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Happy New Year! I hope you didn’t get too out of control and end up forgetting your name, but I think its finally time for us to start getting back into a normal routine, with work around the corner, or school or college breathing down our necks. On the bright side, we have fantasy football to cheer us up. There were some good fixtures this week, with some shock results and impressive displays all round. With Chelsea starting to find form again, and more surprisingly Arsenal being top of the table for more than a game, anything could of happened this week. Lets take a look back at exactly what did happen by checking the dream team for the gameweek 20 success stories!

Dreamteam

Goalkeeper

Artur Boruc – In goal this week, we have Boruc from Bournemouth who was the hero in the goalless draw which saw him save a penalty and also record only his 4th clean sheet of the season. He deservedly got the man of the match accolade for such an impressive performance all round, which ultimately led to his 14 point haul, making him the 2nd highest scorer this week! Who was first, you ask? Lets find out…

Defenders

Laurent Koscielny – The captain for this week was the big Frenchman Koscielny who managed to score a header for the only goal in a thrilling 1-0 win against Newcastle to keep Arsenal at the head of the Premier League. With Newcastle lacking many attackers, a clean sheet was expected but with an overall performance worthy of 3 bonus points, he found himself at the top of this week’s point scorers, the first time this season a defender has been a dream team captain!

Jonny Evans – There seems to be a pattern emerging of only having 3 at the back, and in the 2nd defensive spot we have Evans who after a goal and an above average performance found himself with 10 points, his highest for the season so far. West Brom were worthy 2-1 winners, and find themselves on a streak and go into the new year mid table after back to back wins.

James Collins – To complete the defensive trio we have the lowest dream team scorer of the week, with Collins picking up 9 points. He deserved a lot more though for his efforts against Liverpool as he kept their attacking force at bay, and controlled the wings brilliantly throughout the entirety of the game. He made Klopp unhappy with his unconventional ways of defending but he will be happy with his overall performance.

Midfielders

Oscar & Willian – We have a duo of Oscar and Willian in the first 2 positions in midfield this week. With a goal and an assist each, they are really proving that they are still world class players, especially Willian, who seems to be in the form of his life. Mourinho must have been the factor, as Chelsea return to dismantling teams as they cruised past Palace 3-0. That was only Oscar’s 4th assist of the season, and when compared to last season’s 14, you can obviously see how much Chelsea have been struggling. Will this all change now there is a new manager? We’ll have to wait and see…

Alexander Tettey – Next up, we have Tettey from Norwich who makes his first dream team appearance and with a goal and a man of the match performance, he definitely deserved it. He secured all 3 points against Southampton, a game in which many counted Norwich out of but against all odds, they managed to do it and move away from the relegation zone. They have alright games coming up, so they can really build off the back of this win!

Stephane Sessegnon – Finally in midfield, it’s the one and only Sessegnon. The small player did the business this week as he managed to score and put on an impressive display throughout the entire game as West Brom were crowned 2-1 winners over high-flying Stoke. He’ll be glad to finally get off the mark this season regarding goals and will hope to continue this as they face off against Chelsea next week, where they will need a clinical goalscorer.

Forwards

Jermain Defoe – We have 3 strikers this week, but first up we have Defoe who hasn’t appeared for quite a while, but on his return he truly deserves the accolades as he scored 2 in Sunderland’s 3-1 victory. This was a must win game for both sides, and Villa now look to be relegated already thanks to Defoe denting their hopes of survival. 3 bonus points was a nice addition for Defoe owners too!

Anthony Martial – Next we have Martial who was deemed to be the boy wonder at the start of the season, but he hasn’t quite matched that title up until now as he was quiet for a very long time until this week. United were struggling to score and Old Trafford was asleep half of the time over Christmas, but he livened things up as he managed to bag a goal and secure 3 points in a must win game for United if they want to stay in the hunt for UCL football next year.

Diego Costa – Finally, we have controversial Costa who when he isn’t kicking people or acting childish, he is a footballer and managed to grab a goal this week, making him the 3rd Chelsea player to feature in the dream team this week. Makes a change doesn’t it! A goal and an assist matches him with his 2 team-mates and the troublesome trio made easy work out of Pardew’s side.

So how was this week for you? Was it a major success, just a success or more on the side of failure? Let us know @FPL_Updates
