Gameweek 23 Preview – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 22 saw Manchester City close the gap on the top 2 as both Arsenal and Leicester drew their games whilst City thrashed an out of form Crystal Palace side. At the bottom of the table, Swansea and Newcastle won their respective fixtures and Aston Villa earned a draw at home to Leicester. Gameweek 23 includes some interesting fixtures, let’s hope this gameweek brings a few more points than the previous. Anyway, here is our Fantasy Premier League gameweek 23 preview:

NORLIV

Norwich vs Liverpool

Norwich are very much in a relegation battle this season. A main factor to this is the fact they don’t have a recognised goal scorer in their team. However they do have money from the sale of Lewis Grabban. Their most recent result was a poor showing away at Bournemouth where they were comfortably beaten 3-0. Liverpool have just come off 2 fixtures against Arsenal and Manchester United so this fixture will come as a big relief to them. They lost to Man United 1-0 most recently.

Star Man – Steven Caulker (5.2m)

Has come on the last couple of games and plays up front for the Reds, 6 points for a goal!

Prediction – Norwich 0-2 Liverpool

CRYTOT

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham

Crystal Palace are a lot like Norwich in a way as they also do not have a recognised goal scorer in their ranks. Their most recent result was a 4-0 loss away at title chasing Manchester City. Tottenham have been considered title contenders lately and they proved this on Saturday where they came from behind and beat Sunderland 4-1 at White Hart Lane.

Star Man – Christian Eriksen (8.3m)

Back on form after his 2 goals against Sunderland and looks like he’s back to his best.

Prediction – Crystal Palace 1-3 Tottenham

LEISTK

Leicester City vs Stoke City

Despite going off the boil slightly lately, Leicester are still title contenders as they sit 2nd place. They managed a 1-1 draw away to rock bottom Aston Villa on Saturday which did initially put the Foxes on top but because of the Arsenal result on the Sunday, they dropped back down to 2nd on goal difference. Stoke were involved in that fixture against Arsenal where they drew 0-0 with the Gunners and continue to look good.

Star Man – Shinji Okazaki (5.6m)

Has played well in recent games and is out scoring Vardy at the moment.

Prediction – Leicester 2-1 Stoke City

MUNSOU

Manchester United vs Southampton

Manchester United were greatly boosted by the result away at rivals Liverpool on Sunday which saw the Scouser Wayne Rooney bag a goal in his 3rd consecutive game in the Premier League. Southampton won their last game also with a home win against West Brom, which saw the Saints bag themselves 3 goals in a 3-0 win. They also announced the signing of QPR striker Charlie Austin for a fee thought to be around the 4 million mark.

Star Man – Wayne Rooney (9.9m)

Has scored 3 goals in his last 2 games and has almost single handedly earned Man Utd 4 points.

Prediction – Manchester United 1-1 Southampton

SUNBOU

Sunderland vs Bournemouth

Sunderland looked like they could record back to back victories until Tottenham turned it on against them on Saturday. They took the lead but were eventually hammered 4-1 in London. They do however have an unlikely goal scorer on their hands in Patrick van Aanholt. Bournemouth came back from their 3-1 defeat at home to West Ham with a 3-0 win against relegation rivals Norwich, where new signing Benik Afobe scored his first goal for the Cherries.

Star Man – Patrick van Aanholt (4.6m)

Has scored in his last 3 games albeit thanks to a few lucky deflections.

Prediction – Sunderland 1-1 Bournemouth

WATNEW

Watford vs Newcastle

Watford are going on a bit of a shaky run in recent time. Their most recent result was in the Monday Night Football fixture which saw them lose to Swansea at the Liberty 1-0. Because of that result Newcastle fell back in to the relegation zone after climbing out of it on Saturday. This was because they beat high flying West Ham 2-1.

Star Man – Jonjo Shelvey (5.3m)

Orchestrated the midfield against West Ham making a big impact on his debut.

Prediction – Watford 1-1 Newcastle

WBAAVL

West Brom vs Aston Villa

West Brom are starting to find themselves in a relegation battle due to recent results. Tony Pulis has seen his side most recently lose to Southampton 3-0 away from the Hawthorns which has put them 13th in the league, 6 points off the relegation zone. Aston Villa are still rock bottom but their gutsy performance against Leicester suggests that Remi Garde’s side may have enough to stay in the Premier League.

Star Man – Rudy Gestede (5.6m)

Scored the equaliser against Leicester and is a big threat in the air.

Prediction – West Bromwich Albion 1-1 Aston Villa

WHUMCI

West Ham vs Manchester City

Last Tuesday West Ham came away from home to beat Bournemouth 3-1. However just a few days later they slumped to a 2-1 loss away at relegation threatened Newcastle. Manchester City are still sitting 3rd in the league and arguably registered the best result of the week with their 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace. If Manchester City draw or win and Leicester and Arsenal slip up, Pellegrini will see his side at the top of the table.

Star Man – Sergio Aguero (13.3m)

Back from injury once again and looks to be back to his normal best.

Prediction – West Ham 1-2 Manchester City

EVESWA

Everton vs Swansea

Everton still haven’t lost in January yet despite having fixtures with Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham. They most recently played Chelsea and fought out a 3-3 draw, however they were leading until conceding very deep into stoppage time. Swansea recorded just their 2nd win in 12 games against Watford in the Monday Night Football game. This result meant that the Swans climbed out of relegation zone.

Star Man – Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.0m)

Plays in a very attacking role for the Swans and is classed as a midfielder on FPL.

Prediction – Everton 1-1 Swansea

ARSCHE

Arsenal vs Chelsea

Arsenal still remain top of the league after only needing a draw against Stoke. The Gunners did draw with Stoke 0-0 so they are top but only on goal difference and this fixture with Chelsea is certainly going to test Wenger’s side. Chelsea held on to their unbeaten home record with Guus Hiddink in charge. They dramatically drew with Everton which saw John Terry score a 90+8 minute goal after Everton thought they won it with a 90+1 minute goal.

Star Man – Mesut Ozil (10.0m)

He will certainly give Mikel a tough game and will be hungry for more assists.

Prediction – Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea
