After a difficult start to the season, followed by a number of rough patches, the side has finally broken the top 10k with a week to go. We’ve peaked at the perfect time but the season isn’t over yet. With gameweek 38 to go we’re ranked at 7,890.
Gameweek 37 went well considering the fact a lot of managers had a tough week. 57 points gave the side a 2.5k green arrow, mainly due to an outstanding defensive performance. It was a poor week for the attacking players with most of the template blanking.
A clean sweep of returns at the back was the reason for another green arrow. New signing Ederson instantly returned with a clean sheet. The defensive double up paid off as Laporte scored a dozen points after an exquisite assist to set up Kompany’s rocket of a goal. Doherty matched the Frenchman after he netted for the 4th time this season. TAA continues to outperform his price with 3 double digit hauls in a row after he assisted twice in a 3-2 win for his 10 pointer.
Salah continues to tick along and he scored to lead the golden boot race. Jota, who hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions and Mane both blanked. The most disappointing part of the gameweek came when Son was sent off stupidly after a rush of blood to the head.
3 blanks up top as Wilson, Aguero and Jimenez all failed to against oppositions who you’d expect more than 6 points from.
Transfers -> Son to Redmond
Son made the final transfer of the season rather easy. In comes Redmond who has the easiest game on paper. He scored and assisted in the reverse fixture and he’s our last punt of the season.
Ederson and Laporte travel down to Brighton who survived for another season. Bednarek comes in for his plum home game against Huddersfield. TAA has Wolves at Anfield and I’m hoping he’ll beat Robertson in the assist tallys this week.
Mane and Salah have one job and that’s to beat Wolves in order to win the Premier and hope City fail to win. Both are gunning for the golden boot too. Jota travels to Anfield and will look to upset the party. He was unlucky last week and I think Wolves will breach the Liverpool defence. Redmond faces Huddersfield at home and I imagine both sides will be looking for goals with not much on the line.
The rollercoaster that is Callum Wilson faces a good Crystal Palace side. You never know which Cherries team will turn up but after their win against Spurs, you’d expect them to have some extra confidence going into the game. Jimenez has a tough job to breach the Liverpool defence but we’ve seen before that Wolves love facing a top 6 side. Aguero and his side just need to win to secure the title and he’s potentially a hat-trick away from taking home to golden boot.
Captaincy: It came down to either Aguero or the Liverpool midfield duo. Aguero has only 5 goals on the road but is 2 behind in the golden boot race. I’m worried Pep will keep it tight once City get 1 or 2 but the Argentine could easily be the one to get those goals. The Liverpool game looks like it could be more open with Wolves not having that great a defence and Liverpool coming off the bounce of a 4-0 win vs Barca. For those reasons, Salah ends the season with the armband.
