Welcome to our Fantasy Premier League captaincy analysis for the upcoming gameweek 13. After an international break in which football has been largely forgotten about for all the wrong reasons it will be good to get back to the FPL game. There are quite a few feasible options for captaincy and here I will attempt to analyse them and help you decide who to trust with the armband. Firstly though we must look back at how our tips from last week fared:
1. Jamie Vardy – 9 points
2. Graziano Pelle – 1 point
3. Romelu Lukaku – 8 points
Differential – Wilfried Bony – 1 point
Gamble – Mesut Ozil – 8 points
Now it’s time to move on to this week’s picks.
1. Jamie Vardy (NEW)
The Leicester frontman has been in absolutely fantastic form scoring in each of his last 9 games and as long as he recovers from the small injury he is carrying he would be expected to extend that streak when his high flying Leicester side travel to Tyneside to face a struggling Newcastle side. Vardy is clearly going to be a popular captaincy choice this week with many expecting him to continue his mind blowing form however some managers are expecting his goal glut to come crashing to an end any game now. A slight risk but it’ll take a brave person to bet against a Vardy goal.
2. Graziano Pelle (STK)
The Saints striker underperformed at Sunderland last time out which has lead many managers to consider ditching him but his side host a Stoke team who’s form has been quite indifferent so far this season. Pelle may well put his blank at the stadium of light behind him and add to his 6 league goals at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon. A slight risk but the Italian is usually quite a reliable point scorer so many managers will be giving him the armband.
3. Harry Kane (WHU)
The Tottenham frontman has returned to the scoresheet after a run of games without scoring and many managers are beginning to sit up and take notice, his team host a West Ham side who have lost their best player in Dimitri Payet through injury which is bound to weaken a Hammers side who have been performing well this season. Spurs haven’t lost since the opening day of the season so you would expect Spurs to get a result at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Harry Kane has 6 league goals to his name so far and many are expecting him to add to them in the coming weeks. Kane is a slight risk for captaincy but when he’s on form he’s unplayable and will return a big score.
Differential – Diego Costa (NOR)
Costa has been disappointing this season along with his Chelsea side as a whole. He has only managing 2 goals so far however everyone is expecting Chelsea to roar into life soon and as the main striker you would expect Costa to get back amongst the goals. He and his team face a struggling Norwich side at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and Chelsea will see it as the perfect opportunity to relieve some of the pressure on themselves and start to move back up the league. If you are considering getting the Spanish forward it’s worth remembering his ownership is only around 6% so if he has a good week it could really move you up through the ranks. A solid differential albeit one struggling for form.
Gamble – Sergio Aguero (LIV)
The City striker is set to make his return from injury at the Etihad on Saturday evening. Usually when a player who’s returning from the sidelines, FPL managers air on the side of caution however Aguero is the type of player who can come back and score immediately which is why some are taking the bold step of recruiting him at this stage. If he does lead the line you’d expect he’d be in the thick of the action and could well return a decent score. If you do choose to bring in or captain the Argentine striker I would wait until after the press conference on Friday as this usually gives you a sense as to what part Aguero is likely to play on Saturday. A huge risk as he could easily only make a late cameo and score you one point but on the other hand if he starts and returns, your rank will rise due to a relatively low ownership of just over 10%.
