Euro 2016 Preview – Germany – Fantasy Football Tips

The world champions, Germany, go into Euro 2016 without some of their familiar faces, following the retirement of the likes of Phillip Lahm and Per Mertesacker. Germany will always be one of the hot favourites in every tournament that they participate in, but of course some players will have more of a role to play than others. Let’s take a closer look at their squad and more importantly their fantasy football potential!

Defence

You only have to look at the goalkeeper to see the star quality of Germany’s defence. Manuel Neuer will be the man in between the sticks, with the Bayern Munich shot-stopper winning the double in the Bundesliga this season. Mats Hummels will be joining him as a team-mate in Bavaria next season, and he is a solid centre-back to get into your starting line-ups. However, Germany really do struggle at full-back so it is best to avoid players in this particular positions.

Midfield

Arsenal maestro Mesut Ozil recorded 19 assists in the Premier League, helping them to a 2nd place finish in the table. Another midfielder who plays in England is Bastian Schweinsteiger, and although he is pure class, he has struggled with injury so he could well be a risky choice. Marco Reus would have been a definite candidate for fantasy football selection, but has been ruled out with an injury. Real Madrid man Toni Kroos also makes the cut.

Forwards

Mario Gomez is back to his best, and has fully deserved his recall to Die Mannschaft. He scored a whopping 26 goals in the Turkish league, helping Besiktas win the title ahead of their Istanbul rivals. He will lead the line for Joachim Low this summer and we hope that he continues this phenomenal goal-scoring record for Germany into June, and potentially July.
