Euro 2016 Preview – Slovakia – Fantasy Football Tips

Slovakia have been drawn along with England, Russia and Wales in Euro 2016, so they will certainly give advancing into the knockout stages a real go. The injury to key man Robert Vittek (Slovakia’s all-time top goal scorer) was a real blow to them however, but they qualified in style with wins over the likes of Spain and Ukraine in the process. Let’s take a look at their fantasy football star men.

Defence

Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel may have fallen out with club manager Jurgen Klopp, but he is the captain, leader and rock at the back at international level, so will be featuring for Slovakia in Euro 2016. Peter Pekarik has also had a rather good campaign, helping Hertha Berlin achieve Europa League football in the Bundesliga. Unfortunately, the goalkeepers are lacking in true start quality so this could be costly in terms of ruling out the clean sheet points obtained by the backline.

Midfield

Marek Hamsik is the poster boy for the Eastern Europeans, with five goals in the Euro 2016 qualification process. A key member of the Napoli side that qualified for the Champions League, Hamsik is the standout candidate for a Slovakian footballer in your fantasy football teams. Former Manchester City player Vladimir Weiss is also in the Euro 2016 squad, in addition to AC Milan midfielder Juraj Kucka.

Forwards

30-year-old Slovakian, Adam Nemec scored three goals in Euro 2016 qualifying, but Slovakia really do lack a potent goal scorer in the squad following Vittek’s injury. As a result, we advise avoiding any players in this position as Hamsik will likely be the biggest goal threat in the Slovakian national side.
