Fantasy Football Potential – Aleksandar Dragovic

Leicester have signed defender Aleksandar Dragovic from German outfit Bayern Leverkusen on a season long loan deal. The Austrian international centre back will more than likely fill in for the ageing Robert Huth and Wes Morgan.

Last season, Aleksandar Dragovic played a respectable 30 matches for club and country, failing to score in any of them. He joined the German side from Dynamo Kiev, where he faced Chelsea in the Champions League and scored a brace. However, one of the goals were in the wrong net!

He has an impressive 54 appearances for Austria scoring once, but his Euro 2016 campaign was a time to forget. In their opener against Hungary, Dragovic was sent off. He then missed a penalty against Iceland in a decisive match, which ended with Iceland grabbing the win.

Fantasy Football Potential

Dragovic has been priced at 5.0m, making him more expensive than Morgan and ever so slightly cheaper than Harry Maguire. I believe Dragovic will start with Maguire at the heart of the Leicester defence, but Shakespeare could stick with what he knows and select Morgan.

The Austrian isn’t a renowned goal scorer from defence. He’s scored just 7 goals in over 200 league appearances across Europe. Last season he was booked just 5 times which isn’t too bad, but the season beforehand he received two red cards and many yellows, so his disciplinary record may be an issue.

Leicester’s next five fixtures are as follows: Chelsea (H), Huddersfield (A), Liverpool (H), Bournemouth (A) and West Brom (H). These look some favourable matches for Dragovic to help him settle in to the Premier League.
