Fantasy Football Potential – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool have signed midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Premier League rivals Arsenal for a fee in the region of £40 million. The England international can play anywhere across the midfield and even at wingback.

Arsenal had signed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Southampton and joins many other former Southampton players at Anfield, including former team mate Adam Lallana. He played left wing back in Arsenal’s humiliating defeat last fixture against Liverpool, which begs the question, where will he play at Liverpool.

In a message to Reds fans after sealing the move, Oxlade-Chamberlain said:

“I’m currently away with England, so I’m at St George’s Park. Firstly, I’m delighted to have signed for Liverpool and a big thank-you to everyone here at the FA that has made this possible, using the facilities. It has been a massive help.”

Fantasy Football Potential

The versatile player will more than likely play central midfield due to Jurgen Klopp preferring to play the 4-3-3 formation. Also, Chamberlain has reiterated the fact that his preference is to play central midfield which could’ve lead to him selecting Liverpool over the champions Chelsea.

He is priced at 6.0m on FPL, which in my opinion could be decent value for money depending on how much game time he gets with Liverpool. However in his 6 seasons playing in England’s top flight he has failed to score more than twice which will put off many FPL managers.

Liverpool’s next five fixtures are as follows: Manchester City (A), Burnley (H), Leicester (A), Newcastle (A) and Manchester United (H). The two difficult matches against the Manchester clubs will certainly test the quality of Chamberlain and how quick he can adapt to Liverpool’s style of play.
