FPL Updates vs FFPundits – Football Fanager

So we are back round to the weekend and that only means 1 thing to us: the Premier League is back, and with it comes our competition with FFPundits on Football Fanager. Last week we were helped out by a few of those in our selection. Eriksen managed to bag us a few points thanks to his goal against Newcastle on Sunday. Hazard and Aguero also retuned the goods with goals in their games against United and West Ham respectively. However, our reliance on clean sheets from Southampton and Palace completely backfired as they both lost to Stoke and West Brom in their games, games you would be expecting them to win.

Onto this week and we have gone for a couple of surprises and a traditional formation:

So we have banked on big points from the double gameweek players, especially in defence.

Defence

We start with 4 players from 2 teams: Moreno and Skrtel from Liverpool alongside Courtois and Ivanovic from Chelsea. Liverpool face off against West Brom over the weekend, followed by a game against a depleted Hull side on Tuesday. Chelsea face a tougher fixture to start with as they take on Arsenal at the Emirates, followed by a game against Leicester City on Wednesday night. We fancy Mourinho to pull off a master class performance as he always manages to do against one of the big guns and earn his side a clean sheet in both games. Ivanovic and Courtois will be key to this. We finally have Joel Ward who will be taking on Hull at home. Apologies to Hull as it seems as though we are picking on them here but we don’t fancy them to pick up any points in this double gameweek!

Midfield

In the middle of the park we start with Raheem Sterling. As well as backing Liverpool to bag two clean sheets, we also fancy them to score a few in their games, a gamble some may say after their bitter loss to Aston Villa in the FA cup semi at Wembley. Next up we have Puncheon, who yet again is another player we expect to pick up points against Hull. Somewhat a gamble here as Puncheon hasn’t been the first name that has popped to mind when considering midfielders but we are backing him this week to step up. Of course, no fantasy football team is complete without the Belgian wizard that is Eden Hazard. All of the remaining games until Chelsea are mathematically crowned champions are huge, despite whether the team is considered a big team or not, and this player delivers in key situations. Finally, we have another player who has been quiet in the second half of this season and that is Gylfi Sigurdsson. He faces the scenario of travelling to St. James’ Park and picking up a result, which has been a lot easier than you would’ve thought lately. Newcastle are a struggling team at the moment and Swansea should be doing anything in their power to benefit from that this weekend.

Strikers

Up top, we have gone for two “safer” players, neither of which are playing in the double gameweek. A gamble some would say but we back these guys to deliver. Firstly we have Sergio Aguero who has quietly picked up fantasy football points lately and he will be looking to help his side to another victory this weekend against Villa. Next to him and completing our line up this week, we have Wayne Rooney. He features in a fixture which has been considered a tough one over recent seasons but shouldn’t be too much of a problem this time around considering their form. Everton haven’t performed to the standard they or anyone else expects this season in the league and the majority have put this down to the distraction that is the Europa League. Rooney will be looking to capitalise on this and hopefully he is given back his striker role so he can do the damage we are hoping for.

Now onto the Pundits team:

Pundits

So it can be seen that the FFPundits have gone with a familiar 4-3-3 formation this week. Firstly, it can be seen that 3 of their back 4 are also in our lineup, with them starting; Morneo, Skrtel, Ivanovic and Terry at the back. In the middle of the park they only have 3 players, two of which also feature in our team, being Hazard and Sterling. Their main differential here will be Diame, who does have two fixtures this week. Finally up top they start with Aguero as captain, with N’Doye and Rooney starting alongside him. This week both of our teams are very similar, which means those captaincy choices and differential players will be crucial in the success of either team!
