Gameweek 29 Review

Not many memorable games occurred this weekend, but there were still goals but in surprising places. Aston villa came out of nowhere to ruin many manager’s dreams, and give the fantasy community something to think about. With Manchester City pulling a blank and Chelsea only managing 1, the average was quite low, as your usual captains failed to impress and some other players could take the spotlight. Let’s check who did in this week’s dream team.

Review

Goalkeeper

In goal, we have Schwarzer, who tallies his first clean sheet of the season in a dull 0-0 draw against Hull City. With Leicester already conceding 44 goals this season, it is no surprise they sit at the bottom of the table and unfortunately draws wont be good enough.  A clean sheet and 5 saves, the 42 year old edges past the competition into the team of the week after 8 clean sheets were recorded, including Liverpool and Arsenal.

Defenders

First off in this 3 man wall, is Clark. With Villa winning in dominating fashion it is no shock to see a young defender in the squad. The back line of Villa did not have much to compete with, as Sunderland played poorly both offensively and defensively and was a relaxing day for Clark and co. With a clean sheet and an assist to 1 of 4 goals, he secures himself a spot.

Next, we have the man of the match of the 0-0 draw, Huth who helped secure a point in a high pressure game. Hull were definitely out to win the game and Leicester parked the bus as they only managed 3 shots on target and came close to conceding many times throughout the game. With a well deserved clean sheet and 3 bonus points he secures himself a dominant 9 points.

Finally in defence, we have Martin Skrtel who many didn’t think would play after his head injury against Blackburn, but the strong defender fought off the pain and secured Liverpool the 3 points and another clean sheet, making 9 and a half hours without conceding a goal away from home. Another defender who secures himself 3 bonus points after an impressive performance after a shaky first half from the Reds.

Midfielders

Firstly, we have the highest scoring player in Micheal Carrick as he inspired his team to a 3-0 win against a highly confident Tottenham side who are fighting for a top 4 finish. His goal and assist helped boost the Red Devils up the table as they were being pressured by Liverpool, as the top 4 fight becomes tighter than ever. A strong performance from the returning Englishmen as he looks to impress Roy Hodgson before the end of the month Euro qualifiers.

Next up we have Aaron Ramsey, who has been quiet recently after a poor display in the Champions League. However he silenced his critics after an impressive display resulting in a goal and an assist as well as a much needed 3 points closing the gap between them and City who dropped points dramatically this weekend.

Another United player is featured this week, with the impressive solo goal from Fellaini being the first strike of the game, demoralizing Tottenham and resulting in a battering. Fellaini has already beat his goal tally from last season and as he is experiencing more football he looks to be improving, with 13 points this week increasing his tally to 64 for the season.

McCarthy is our next midfielder, as the young Everton player makes an impact for the first time this season as the player has flopped under Martinez.  However this was different as the player managed to secure a place in the dream team, after securing 3 bonus points and grabbing his first goal of the season, after a unimpressive start.

Finally, in midfield we have George Boyd, who helped shut down the former Champions in a tough game which left many managers disappointed. Aguero was cancelled out by a strong performance from Burnley, particularly Boyd who helped edge Burnley into the lead, as well as securing himself 3 bonus points. With 5 goals already to his name, he will be looking to grow his tally in the future as he hopes to keep Burnley in the top flight.

Forwards

This week we have the duo but firstly, lets discuss Agbonlahor, who after recent failures with Paul Lambert lost his form and wasn’t given enough scoring chances. However with Sherwood coming in, the new villa is goals galore as they slotted 4 past a struggling Sunderland, allowing the young Englishmen to improve his tally. Not 1 but 2 goals helped secure him a spot in the dream team, almost doubling his record for the season.

Finally we have, Lord Benteke who was heavily criticised after his goal drought left Villa struggling but after an impressive performance, he inspired a Villa win and prevented all chances of a comeback. With 2 goals and 3 bonus points, the Belgian will be looking to find some form in the later weeks of the season and also in the Euro qualifiers.
