PRE-SEASON ANALYSIS – Arsenal

ARS

Last year was the year that Arsenal ended their nine year trophy drought with a 3-2 win in the FA Cup final against Hull City. Their form in the league was extremely good during the fist half of the season, seeing them sitting top at Christmas. However to the disappointment of their supporters, their form dipped in the last three months of the season seeing their title hopes drift away.

One noteable result was the 5-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, which started a run of poor results, seeing just two wins in the following eight games. Arsenal’s dip in form could have been attributed to by a few main injuries that they faced, such as Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, etc. This saw them finish in fourth at the end of the season, which as we all know is Arsenal’s favourite place.

STAR MAN- Aaron RAMSEY

Aaron Ramsey had an inspirational season, that is of course when he was fit. The Welshman suffered a thigh injury at West Ham after what was a crucial first half performance by Ramsey. When he returned from injury, Arsenal were left in fourth which showed how much of an impact he had, considering they were first when he became injured.

Last season, the Welsh wizard was also awarded with Arsenal’s player of the season, even though he missed a large part of it, scoring 10 goals in 23 appearances. This season we shall look forward to seeing much more of the same from the midfielder.

HIDDEN GEM – Mesut OZIL

Mesut Ozil arrived in London from Real Madrid for a fee of £42.5 million, and many expected big things. However, the German has seemed to struggle somewhat getting used to the Premier League and many Arsenal supporters expected more. He did however manage 5 goals and 10 assists over 25 games.

However, over the summer Mesut Ozil and Germany went on to win the World Cup which Ozil himself played a crucial part. This in itself could be a blessing in disguise and Ozil could come back to play with more confidence than ever, which could mean big points for Fantasy Football managers.
