Gameweek 2 Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

First week jitters are finally past us, but the excitement doesn’t stop there! Gameweek 2 was bound to be better than the opening day, with a lot more high profile games including the 1st and 2nd place battling off in a high tension game following the controversy of Mourinho. Luckily, we don’t have to pick our medical teams in fantasy premier league, so let’s get straight into what matters, the players, and find out where the FPL points were hiding this week!

Dreamteam

Goalkeeper

After a battering last week, Boaz Myhill redeemed himself by keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw against Watford. However his standout 5 saves edged him over his competition, and a deserved 3 bonus points saw him edge his tally to 10 for the week. It’s lucky he bounced back in such form after a poor first week against powerhouse Man City, but he can keep his head held high after City banged 3 in against the defending champions this week!

Defenders

A dominant performance up front saw the game drift away from Southampton, giving the Everton back line, and Seamus Coleman, a simple job. A struggling Southampton side looked tired, and a 3-0 scoreline reflected just this. An assist saw the Irish full back continue his successful form and with big clubs interested in the player, he will need to push on from this performance.

A repeat of last week! Perhaps the captain got tired of relying on Aguero and took matters into his own hands, or head in this instance. A perfect start for Kompany this season, with 2 goals and 2 clean sheets to his name already, making him the highest scoring player in fantasy football so far! I’d be surprised if he makes it a 3rd week but perhaps he has found his goal scoring instinct just in time for the start of the season!

Joel Ward managed to grab a goal this week, which looked to bring confidence to Palace, but in the end it was only a consolation goal after they lost composure and found themselves trailing once again. A goal early on in the season, matches his record from last season, as well as 3 bonus points giving him an overall tally of 10 heading into next week against a more reasonable Villa side.

After scrapping for a point a piece with Chelsea last week, the Swans were full of confidence and it showed after a dominant performance against a Newcastle side. Williams managed to secure a man of the match performance, seeing the defender get 3 bonus points added onto his 1st clean sheet of many as the Welsh side look strong heading into a tough set of fixtures with United and Everton coming up in the next month.

Midfielders

Newly promoted Norwich found themselves playing Sunderland, and Redmond, like last week, delivered in great fashion. No doubt he will be a standout player throughout the season and is definitely worth a look at as a cheap alternative to bag you some goals.

Last year, Ross Barkley was deemed to be the next England sensation, but then his form slowed down. Is this the revival of the form he showed when he was in his prime? 2 goals in as many games shows characteristics of why he was so hyped up internationally and throughout the world by pundits and fans. Let’s hope he finds form by the Euros and continues to bang goals in!

The Spanish wizard, David Silva,  finds himself in a similar position which he hogged for the majority of last season, and no wonder when his vision and execution is as good as his! 2 assists helped City destroy title rivals Chelsea, making it 3 assists for the season already, and that is guaranteed to rise as the season advances. It is no shock he is priced at 10m and this makes it difficult to decide if he is worth the money!

Another Norwich player, and this time it is Hoolahan! 2 assists to compliment Redmond’s performance saw Norwich cruise past a struggling Sunderland who find themselves at the bottom of the table. A trio of assists in only 2 games will give the newly promoted player confidence to reach his past performances when Norwich were last in the top flight all them years ago!

Another player who makes a back to back dream team appearance as his points tally rises to 25 for the season! As it stands, Mahrez is the top scorer and Leicester are off to a great start and he is the exact reason why, scoring half of their goals so far and overall just making himself a pain to all defences. He will be tested next week against Spurs to see if he can perform on the big stage.

Strikers

Romelu Lukaku, the Big Belgian striker shut Southampton down with 2 first half goals, the first coming from a dominant header, and the second a sweet strike from outside the box catching the keeper wrong footed. His next fixtures are very important ones, with City, Spurs and then Chelsea, the Belgian will need to grab some goals to help Everton through the tough few weeks coming up!

So that’s where the points were hiding! Some surprises once again and of course some familiar faces we all expect to perform every week, but how did you do? Let us know @FPL_Updates
