Gameweek 8 Review – Fantasy Premier League Tips

This week, we saw a massive amount of goals as 32 were scored, resulting in a high opportunity for fantasy premier league points. The highest score was 164, the FPL dreamteam landing 149, and many came close to these amounts thanks to some likely goalscorers. Some huge fixtures led to managers being wary about boring 0-0 derbies but the weekend didn’t disappoint when it came to the action so let’s see where you could have scored all the points in gameweek 8!

Dreamteam

Goalkeeper

Heurelho Gomes – The Watford keeper, put in an outstanding performance against fellow newly promoted side Bournemouth who have recently lost their star man. The keeper took advantage of this as the step in striker couldn’t execute as efficiently and Gomes managed 5 saves and a penalty save to ensure that Watford could take a point away from the game. The first choice keeper didn’t disappoint when it mattered and this is why he was awarded 2 bonus points this week!

Defenders

Glen Johnson – The defender has been given a lot of stick over the recent years but he managed to keep his cool this week, as the usually nervous defender found himself in the perfect position to assist Stoke’s only goal of the game, as well as ensuring his team kept Villa at bay to ensure an expected win for Stoke. A first clean sheet of the season for the struggling side but they’ll definitely look to improve on this record throughout the season.

Erik Pieters – Another Stoke defender, but he didn’t do much special. He did his job and kept the clean sheet which will open up the tally for the season and a well deserved 2 bonus points saw him edge past defenders who were in contemplation for the spot. Stoke dominating in defence for the first time this season, but will it continue from here?

Jeffrey Schlupp – After drawing blanks for the last 2 games, the Leicester defender grabbed 8 points, including a goal which opens up his tally for the season! However, Leicester are still yet to get a clean sheet this season which is quite worrying as they play in-form Southampton next and then who knows when they will be able to stop the opposition from scoring! Somehow they’re still 5th, largely thanks to their attacking force!

Midfielders

Alexis Sanchez – The magician strikes again! 36 points in 2 weeks is a stat to be buzzing about, especially if you captained him. 2 impressive goals from Sanchez saw Arsenal cruise past United in convincing fashion and they seem to truly be title contenders. Sanchez has now scored more than he has in his last 21 games in just his last 2! (definitely didn’t steal that stat from Match of the Day!)

Christian Eriksen – After a slow start, Eriksen has come alive with 2 goals this week to earn a well deserved draw against Swansea after coming from behind twice to secure 1 point out of the 3. They would have expected much more however, after the convincing win against City, but a draw away from home against struggling Swansea isn’t a result to be too sad about. 2 free kicks is always an impressive way to get in the dream team!

Kevin De Bruyne – The new signing appears in the dream team again, making it his second time in only 4 gameweeks and with 2 assists and an excellent goal, it is no doubt he will be featuring in the team throughout the season. He had a pretty eye catching price tag, but he will be removing all doubt from the fans and critics as he continues to be in the action every week!

Yohan Cabaye – A goal and an assist saw Cabaye leap frog into the dream team with 14 points. With his third goal of the season he has been quite a successful signing as Crystal Palace find themselves in the final Champions League spot which would be quite a surprise if they manage to sustain that position throughout the rest of the season!

Mesut Ozil – Ozil is a bit more generous than Sanchez as he assisted 1 as well as grabbing himself a goal to secure a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game as United were left shellshocked. 4 assists already for Ozil this season as the German looks to respond to some of the criticism said last season! Maybe now he has got a half decent haircut he can start to play like his Real Madrid ways again!

Forwards

Sergio Aguero – After Lewandowski scored 5 in 9 minutes, Aguero did his best to match this but it took him a little longer! Many managers opted to put him as their captain and some lucky, lucky players decided to triple captain him this week where his 25 points were tripled into 75. That’s more than my tally for the last 2 weeks! With rumours  of him receiving treatment at halftime and then banging in 4 on his return to the pitch is truly astonishing. But it doesn’t surprise me anymore how good of a player he is!

Graziano Pelle – Finally, we have another player to shock the champions of last season, as Southampton found the character to form a comeback and close the game out 3-1 against a poor Chelsea side who continue to struggle. He was involved in every goal, as he assisted 2 before getting on the scoresheet for the 5th time this season and will be in contemplation for the top scorer if he continues this form, with only 2 players scoring more goals than him!
