Season Prospects – Newcastle

Newcastle

2014/15 saw an up and down season for Newcastle, but mostly down with the unstable management and the exponential hatred towards Mike Ashley. The magpies will hope for a higher placement than 15th this season. With Steve McClaren hoping to work wonders, as the former England Manager will be striving in confidence and will expect a much better performance from the players who were opted to leave if Newcastle found themselves in the Championship. So who will be that player to ensure they have a stable season once again?

STAR MAN – Papiss Demba Cissé (6.5m)

The clubs top scorer of last season will look to carry on his succession and will hope to have a starting position after a positive season. Cisse had a vital role in keeping the North East side up so he is definitely worth a look at, but it seems to be a trend that he lacks big performances when needed, so could be a little bit of a risk. However, the pacey, clinical forward certainly has the potential needed for the premier League and will be forced to play a vital part in every game, as he looks to improve on last season’s tally of 11 goals. The Senegalese footballer has just turned 30, so will this play a detrimental factor on his upcoming season? Either way at just 6.5m, Cisse could be a very good choice for a cheaper third striker.

HIDDEN GEM – Tim Krul (4.5m)

The Dutch keeper has bags of talent, but with only 8 clean sheets last season, this can be easily improved. The first choice goalkeeper will be looking to end his career at Newcastle and can certainly be used effectively as a squad rotational player as the seasons pass on. With a price of 4.5m, he is one of the cheaper alternatives and as a nailed on starter, Krul is definitely a player to look out for as the season advances!
