Fantasy Football Potential – Danny Ings

Danny Ings has joined Southampton on a season long loan from Liverpool, with a permanent deal due to commence next season. Ings has reportedly signed a four year deal with Southampton, with a £20 million fee being paid for his services.

Danny Ings does have some International experience, as he has played 13 fixtures for England u21’s scoring 4 goals. He also has one senior England cap which came against Lithuania, as they came away with a 3-0 victory.

Here’s what Mark Hughes has had to say about Danny Ings:

“There was significant competition for Danny, with a lot of clubs keen to complete a deal for him, so we’re clearly delighted that he chose to join us. We have admired him for some time now, not only for his ability, but also his character and personality, which we feel will be an ideal fit in our dressing room.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (5.5m)

Whilst at Liverpool Danny Ings struggled, as he was hampered by injuries over the course of his three year stay at Anfield. Ings made a total of 14 league appearances for the Reds, scoring on 3 occasions. Before this, Ings had played part seasons at Bournemouth and Dorchester Town. It was at Burnley where Ings really made his mark, with the 2013/14 and 2014/15 season being his best. In 2013/14 Championship season, Ings helped Burnley to promotion as he played 40 games, scoring in 21 of those. During the 2014/15 season he managed 11 goals and 4 assists in 35 appearances.

Priced at £5.5m in Fantasy Premier League, Danny Ings could become a bargain if he rediscovers the form that earned him a move to Burnley to Liverpool. With not many forwards priced around £5.5m, he could be that perfect cheap third forward that allows investment in more of the more expensive players.

Southampton’s first five games are; Burnley (H), Everton (A), Leicester (H), Crystal Palace (A) and Brighton (H). These 5 fixtures are one of the best opening set of fixtures and if he hits the ground running, cementing his position in the starting XI then he could be one to bring in.
