Fantasy Football Potential – Mohamed Elyounoussi

Southampton have signed Norwegian attacking midfielder Mohamed Elyounoussi from Swiss outfit FC Basel for £16 million. He doesn’t become the first Basel player to make the move to England, another Mohamed, this time Salah, joined Chelsea from Basel back in 2014.

Elyounoussi has impressed greatly in Switzerland scoring 23 and setting up 30 in just 83 appearances for the club. He also has 16 international caps to his name for Norway, scoring four goals in the process.

Elyounoussi has said:

“It’s a family club that is known for bringing in players, developing them and for younger players to get better. I’m a hard worker on the pitch and I like to create chances, either for me or to play others through. That’s where I’m at my best, when I can use my creativity, so I think the philosophy of the club will suit me very well.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (6.5m)

Elyounoussi has been priced at £6.5m making him the most expensive Southampton midfielder, but he should be able to live up to the price tag if you consider his stats from Basel. With Dusan Tadic gone, Elyounoussi could be exactly what they need to move away from any possible relegation fears this season.

Elyounoussi will be looking to follow the footsteps of fellow Norwegian, Joshua King who had one of the great seasons for FPL players in 2016/17, scoring 16 from midfield at a ridiculously cheap price.

Southampton’s first five fixtures are as follows: Burnley (H), Everton (A), Leicester (H), Crystal Palace (A) and Brighton (H). This is a reasonable start for Southampton, where Elyounoussi could shine and grab a few goals and assists.
