Fantasy Football Potential – Ruben Vinagre

Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Portuguese wing back Ruben Vinagre from French side AS Monaco for an undisclosed fee. In his first taste of senior football, the 19 year old played nine Championship games in their title winning campaign last season, scoring and assisting once.

Vinagre has featured plenty of times for Portugal at various youth levels. He has currently played 36 times for Portugal youth teams, failing to score in any of them. He did enjoy success with the u17 team back in 2016, when they won the European Championships in Azerbaijan and played alongside recent Manchester United signing, Diogo Dalot.

Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell has said:

“Ruben Vinagre is a hugely exciting prospect, and we are really looking forward to him developing further under Nuno’s tutelage.”

Fantasy Premier League Potential (4.5m)

Vinagre played just nine times in the league last season so he is clearly not a vital player in this exciting Wolves team. However as I have said on many occasions, it takes just one injury and a player can become a really good Fantasy Premier League asset.

The player he is looking to dethrone is Barry Douglas and with him looking to move to Leeds it’s possible that he has found into Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad. His £4.5m price tag does look appetising, but there are players who will start at a lot of clubs at that price who are nailed on and are potentially a more exciting option.

Wolves’ first five fixtures are as follows: Everton (H), Leicester (A), Manchester City (H), West Ham (A) and Burnley (H). It’s a reasonable start for Nuno’s men but it will be difficult to keep clean sheets against some of these team’s attacks, so even if Vinagre gets sufficient game time, I can’t see him getting many points.
