Gameweek 7 Review – FPL Tips – Fantasy Premier League Tips

Gameweek 7 saw a massive clash as table-topping Liverpool looked to keep up their 100% record as they faced Chelsea, who sat just one place behind Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. Elsewhere, Manchester United travelled to a resurgent West Ham United in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off. Arsenal hosted Watford at the Emirates, while Wolves hosted Southampton. Spurs made the trip North to Huddersfield while Manchester City entertained Brighton and Hove Albion at Eastlands. Sunday saw a match between strugglers Cardiff and Burnley. Anyway, here’s the FPL Updates gameweek 7 review…

Goalkeeper

Rui Patricio – One of the signings of the season must be Wolves capture of Portugal’s man between the sticks in Rui Patricio. The former Sporting Lisbon man lead his international side to Euros glory a couple of years back, and his quality is undoubted. He has been impressive since making the move to England and was one of the stars of the show as the midlands side rallied to defeat Southampton on Saturday. It’s a poor result for the Saints, and with many fans starting to turn on boss Mark Hughes it remains to be seen how much time the Welshman has left.

Defenders

Harry Maguire – After enjoying a tremendous world cup with England and becoming somewhat of a national treasure, there were high hopes for Harry Maguire as we entered the new season, and he hasn’t disappointed. After netting an injury time winner away at Southampton the defender once again made an impact going forward as he provided a goal as well as an assist for his Leicester City side as they ran out 2-0 winners away at Newcastle. Despite the Magpies poor start, to record a win against Rafa Benitez’s side on their own turf is no mean feat.

Jonny Castro & Matt Doherty – One of the keys to Wolverhampton Wanderers early season success has been the system that saw them promoted last season. This involves the wingbacks of a back five playing very high up the pitch, and they are expected to make an impact going forward. It’s fair to say they did that this week. Goals from Ivan Cavaleiro on his Premier League debut and the afore mentioned Jonny led Nuno’s side to a 2-0 win after a relatively poor performance by their standards. However, they will take encouragement from their ability to grind out a result.

Kieran Trippier – Spurs made the long trip North to face Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon after an indifferent start to the season. Despite an okay start to the season, they gave away a poor result at the San Siro as they led with just minutes remaining, only to manage to concede twice, including one deep into injury time to lose 2-1. This meant they were desperate to get back to winning ways and managed to do so against Brighton, however the Terriers are fighting for their lives an wouldn’t lie down ahead of this clash.

Patrick van Aanholt – Crystal Palace travelled to Bournemouth desperate to pick up some more points as they look to consolidate their Premier League status yet again. However, the Cherries have been strong at home this campaign, and took the lead as David Brooks finished. However, Palace wouldn’t lie down and equalised as Patrick van Aanholt thundered home brilliantly. However, despite their best efforts, they would fall at the hands of Eddie Howe’s side as Junior Stanislas netted the winner just two minutes from time. Palace will lament their ability to not take their chances,

Midfielders

Gylfi Sigurdsson – Everton hosted Fulham on Saturday afternoon and were desperate to get back on track at home following a poor defeat to West Ham last time out. It might have seemed to be the same old story as Gylfi Sigurdsson failed to convert from the spot, however the Icelandic international wouldn’t be denied, and netted an impressive brace on the way to victory. This was accompanied by a much-welcomed goal for pricey target man Cenk Tosun. Fulham seem to have faltered the past couple of weeks, but their fans will remain calm after an okay start to the season.

Raheem Sterling – One man who came in for a lot of criticism at the world cup was England and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling. However, he seems to have hit the ground running this season and was in fine form as the Champions dispatched Brighton and Hove Albion as many would have expected. The former Liverpool and Queens Park Rangers winger found the net as well as laying one on for Sergio Aguero, who hasn’t quite been up to his usual standards in the goalscoring department thus far.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson – Another Icelandic midfielder to feature this week is none other than Burnley’s Johann Berg Gudmundsson. After a poor start to the season Burnley battered Bournemouth at Turf Moor and were looking to pick up where they left off as they travelled to Cardiff on Sunday evening. It was the Clarets who broke the deadlock through Gudmundsson, however Josh Murphy levelled shortly after. The Bluebirds were only level for ten minutes though, and retook the lead when Sam Vokes netted what would turn out to be the winner.

Felipe Anderson – West Ham have really improved in recent weeks after a poor start to the season and continued this form as Manchester United visited on Saturday. They took the lead as Felipe Anderson flicked home a low cross brilliantly. They added a second just before half time as an effort from the edge of the box ricocheted in off Victor Lindeloff. United pulled one back as Marcus Rashford flicked home at the near post. However, some awful defending from the Red Devils saw Marko Arnautovic in to slot home the decider.

Forwards

Harry Kane – Many had labelled Harry Kane as tired after featuring heavily in England’s semi-final run at the World Cup, and the forward’s recent performances had added fuel to the fire, as last season’s golden boot winner looked off the pace. However, as his Spurs side travelled to Huddersfield he must have been feeling fine. It was the frontman’s brace that saw Spurs leave Yorkshire with all three points in a relatively comfortable affair. David Wagner’s side need a change of fortunes soon if they are to survive this season.
