Manchester City – Fantasy Premier League Potential – Fantasy Football Tips

2017/18 was a season for the history books. Manchester City’s Centurions broke the 100 point season total in a largely uncontested Premier League campaign. This upcoming season will not be as easy, with many of the “Top Six” sides adding key signings and depth to their roster. Manchester City have made one signing this offseason: fantasy darling Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City.

City have very favourable opening fixtures, with only 1 difficult match-up in their first 7 matches. City’s first six matches are Arsenal (A), Huddersfield (H), Wolves (A), Newcastle (H), Fulham (H), and Cardiff (A).

STAR MAN – Sergio Aguero (£11.0m)

Sergio Aguero comes in this season at £11m, which is his lowest starting price in years. He missed a good portion of the end of last season due to injury. But when Aguero was fit, he started nearly every league game for City. On top of that, Aguero scored 21 goals and 6 assists in the 1960 minutes he played. This is a fantasy return every 72 minutes. Comparing this to Salah who returned every 66 minutes, Aguero is likely to return at similar value given he is £2m cheaper.

HIDDEN GEM – Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m)

Riyad Mahrez is City’s shiny new toy having just been acquired from Leicester City this off-season. Last season, Mahrez accrued 12 goals and 13 assists in 2948 minutes played. When Mahrez plays, he gets points. Additionally, Mahrez may take some right-sided set pieces as he’s shown his delivery is quality. Given that Sterling will likely miss the first few matches of the season to recover after the World Cup, I can see Mahrez getting a few starts at the beginning of the season. Currently only 9.1% TSB, Mahrez may be an under-the-radar pick for the first few games of the season. Once Sterling’s back, it may be time to look elsewhere.

BARGAIN – Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m)

There aren’t many bargains from this City side, but defence is where you may be able to find value. Benjamin Mendy barely played for City last season as he suffered a long-term knee injury, but he looked incredible for his short stint in the side. He’s joined City’s pre-season tour and will hopefully get some minutes under his belt to build his fitness. He’s one to watch right now, but if he appears that he’s ready to start the season, he’ll be in my team for sure. Pep made it very clear that Mendy is an important part of his vision for this City side. His attacking threat for a fullback will be unmatched if he plays regular minutes, and will be an amazing FPL pick. Keep your eye on him.
