Last week our top 3 captaincy selections scored an average of 15 points:
1. Mohamed Salah – 12 points
2. Harry Kane – 13 points
3. Raheem Sterling – 20 points
Differential – Ross Barkley – 1 points
Gamble – Gerard Deulofeu – 1 points
Fingers cossed for more the same this week, here’s our top picks for gameweek 2:
1. Mohamed Salah (SOU)
Can’t have been much of a surprise to see Salah kick starting the new FPL season with a goal! He’s owned by nearly half of FPL managers, and with good reason due to how good he’s been during the last two seasons! Despite taking part in the Super Cup, I don’t think it’ll effect Salah too much, I still expect him to start and do well against Southampton, who started the season off with a 3-0 loss to Burnley. I’m therefore expecting Salah to continue where he left off against Norwich!
2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (BUR)
Like with Salah, Aubameyang also started the season with a goal. I felt like Aubameyang was a little bit overlooked during pre-season, and is still only owned by 25%, which seems a lot, but for a Golden Boot winner last year, I was surprised how ‘low’ his ownership was. That being said, it’s a good thing, because those who own him are going to reap the rewards! They take on Burnley who started the season off really well, with a 3-0 win to Southampton, so this one may be a tough game, but I’m expecting Aubameyang to add to his tally!
3. Richarlison (WAT)
Bit risky considering Everton’s form, but I’m confident in Richarlison against his former club. He ended the season really well and was Everton’s top scorer last season, and at home, Everton became a real force during the latter stages of the season, winning their last 5 home games, 3 of which being against the top 6! He’s only owned by 9% of FPL managers, and could be a real differential if he does well, but be aware that Everton have struggled when attacking during pre-season and against Palace last week!
Differential – Teemu Pukki (NEW)
I said before the Liverpool game that I was really surprised that he was owned by so few people. He scored 29 goals last season, albeit in the Championship, but I felt that he was good against Liverpool, even grabbing a goal against them. In fact, Norwich were actually good all round last week, and the 4-1 score line really wasn’t representative of the game itself. I think they’ll do well against Newcastle, and with Pukki only owned by 5%, he could be a fantastic differential option!
Gamble – Raheem Sterling (TOT)
I know what you’re thinking, how can someone who scored a hat trick be considered a gamble pick? They take on Spurs this week and I think it’ll be a tough one for City, despite how good they are. I think out of every attacker, Sterling is probably the most nailed on starter, but even after a hat trick you can’t rule out Pep rotating him around. I think for this week, it’s better captaining a player with an easier game, because I think Tottenham might surprise a few against City!
That was our analysis of some of the key captaincy options, I hope you enjoyed it. Best of luck this week folks!
