It was a rough week in a number of ways for the FPL Updates XI. It was a poor 37 points as the side sink to 635k and the gaffer came down with the flu to rub it in. With a wildcard to play, this week’s free transfer is a one week punt for the suspended Son.
It was nearly a full house of blanks in defence. I’m annoyed I didn’t take the hit and get rid of Aston Villa keeper Heaton months ago. They’ve been shocking at the back. Lundstram was the only man to return a CS as Sheffield Utd continue to climb up the league. Rico and Kelly both blanked as Mendy kept a CS on the bench, again.
Grealish scored on his debut for the side with a perfect volley. It was a consolation goal in his side’s 3-1 defeat. The rest of the midfield was a disaster. Alli’s only contribution as captain was a yellow card. Son was sent off, while Zaha blanked. KDB did pick up an assist, but was also booked.
Vardy returned once again and it showed I should have left the armband on him! He finished off a through ball, chipping Ederson. Rashford blanked in a frustrating performance against bottom of the league Watford.
Transfers: Son (OUT) -> Salah (IN)
Heaton plays his last game for the side at home to Norwich and I’d take anything above 2 points. Mendy gets a rare start away to Wolves and that probably means he’ll get rested. Lundstram and Kelly both have favourable fixtures against Watford and Newcastle at home.
This week’s fixtures look good on paper but the midfield has been hit and miss most of the season. Grealish is at home to Norwich, but McGinn’s injury could hinder their attacking potential. Alli is at home to Brighton who’ve just kept 2 clean sheets on the road this season (GW1 and GW6). Spurs will be looking to bounce back from their humiliation at the hands of Chelsea. Zaha also plays his last match for the side, but his opponents may have Roberto back in goal as Martin looks to be out. KDB is against one of City’s bogey teams, Wolves. After losing in the reverse fixture it’s not going to be an easy game. Salah’s back in but he’s not just for a one week punt, he’s likely to make it far past the Wildcard. No midfielder stuck out and every game is a must win for Liverpool. I’m only just favouring him over Mané.
Rashford is back at home this week and hasn’t blanked more than 2 games in a row this season. His opponents Newcastle will look to sit back and frustrate, much like they did in the reverse fixture winning 1-0. Finally Vardy plays league leaders Liverpool. The man hasn’t blanked since gameweek 8 and this could make or break the Foxes season.
Captain: Vardy. As said above, they’ve got everything to play for, they’re at home and his form is red hot. Keep it simple, silly.
