Euro 2016 Defenders – Fantasy Football Tips

With Euro 2016 fast approaching, everyone is scrambling to pick a fantasy football team for the summer. One question on many minds is who are the ‘must haves’ and who should we bring in? In this 4 part series we will be looking at the best; goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and strikers to bring into your fantasy teams. If you missed the goalkeepers article, be sure to check back and take a look at it!

Having a solid foundation in your fantasy team can be just as important as bringing in those big hitters up top, because if you select carefully, they can bring in some massive point returns! So with that in mind, here are the top defenders we recommend for your fantasy football teams:

Sergio Ramos – Spain

If you decide against David De Gea in between the sticks, then Sergio Ramos or even Gerard Pique should be considered. Sergio Ramos can pick up the odd yellow card, but does arguably have more of an attacking potential than his counterpart. If these two are a bit too pricey, then there could be cheaper options in the Spanish defence if you look to the likes of Azpilicueta or Juanfran.

Jerome Boateng – Germany

Boateng or even Hummels are the two obvious picks for Germany. The Bayern defender has been under the guidance of Pep Guardiola this season, a season which has been relatively successful, albeit not making the Champions League final. Germany’s group is relatively straight forward, so you may want to think about bringing in Boateng or another German defender.

Ricardo Rodriguez – Switzerland

The Wolfsburg man could be quite a differential pick this summer, as he has shown his class on a number of occasions. The defender may turn out to be a little pricey, but his attacking potential should pay dividends when it comes to fantasy football points. It should also be pointed out that he is on penalties for Wolfsburg, so he won’t be far behind in the Swiss ranks.

Budget options

The teams mentioned above will be those popular teams that fantasy managers will try to cram their teams with players from those nations. There are some other differential and potential budget options that should be considered, such as the likes of Poland and Austria. Dortmund’s Piszczek is worth a consideration, while Christian Fuchs of Leicester is in a group with Hungary and Iceland, so could easily grab a few clean sheets or even an assist!

There is plenty of choice when it comes to the defenders. Pick wisely and you will be rewarded! If you enjoyed this, stay tuned for the next 2 articles, looking at the midfielders and strikers!
