Euro 2016 Preview – Hungary – Fantasy Football Tips

The Hungarians will be hungry for success at Euro 2016, if you pardon the inevitable pun. They narrowly qualified for the tournament, advancing through the play-offs after beating Norway over two legs, in what will be their first European Championships since 1972 where they came fourth. So, let’s delve into which Hungary players you should be picking in your fantasy football teams.

Defence

40-year-old goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly is the most capped player in their entire history, so he will want to add more clean sheets to his name. Liverpool’s Adam Bogdan did not make the cut. The majority of the defence is domestically based and defender Roland Juhasz is by far and away the most experienced in the backline, with six goals in 91 international appearances. Richard Guzmics played 33 times this season in the Polish top tier and scored once in qualifying, and although there are no household names here, Hungary conceded just nine goals in ten qualification matches.

Midfield

West Bromwich Albion stalwart Zoltan Gera makes the cut, who we all know well from the dark Fantasy Premier League days. At 37 years of age now, the attacking midfielder will be looking to score goals and create chances, just as he did for West Brom and Fulham. Balazs Dzsudzsak has Champions League pedigree and was scoring ten goals a season from midfield in his PSV Eindhoven days.

Attack

Attacking options may be best avoiding for this team, as they only scored eleven goals in the qualification process. Former Liverpool player Krisztian Nemeth scored twice in getting Hungary to the Euros, as did Daniel Bode. Adam Szalai had a disappointing season in the Bundesliga.
