Euro 2016 Preview – Italy – Fantasy Football Tips

The European giants always have to be taken seriously, especially considering that they have four World Cups to their name. Italy were runners-up at the last tournament four years ago and will be looking to go one further at Euro 2016. Italy have opted not to take the likes of Andrea Pirlo to the competition, so a new breed of young stars will look to emerge in fantasy football.

Defence

38-year-old Gianluigi Buffon will be the main man in goal, as he has been, for what seems to have been forever. Premier League duo Angelo Ogbonna and Matteo Darmian have been included in the 23 man squad, but the backline is dominated by a trio of Juventus players who helped them win their fifth consecutive Italian top tier title. It’s up to you whether to pick; Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci or Andrea Barzagli.

Midfield

All but one of the midfield play their club football in Italy. Antonio Candreva scored ten goals for Lazio in Serie A, as well as finding the back of the net a couple of times in the Europa League. Alessandro Florenzi scored seven league goals, but showed in the Champions League that he can score from just about anywhere on the pitch. Stephan El Shaarawy is also recalled to the Italy squad.

Forwards

Southampton striker Graziano Pelle will be available for selection, with eleven goals and six assists in this season’s Fantasy Premier League. Lorenzo Insigne, who will probably play out wide, scored twelve goals and ten assists in Serie A for Napoli, so he is also one to keep an eye on this summer. Eder also scored twelve goals, but for Sampdoria, before making a move to Inter Milan in January.
