Manchester City FPL Preview – Fantasy Football Tips

Remising on the 2018/19 season Manchester City were terrific and 3 players stood out; Sterling, Laporte and Aguero. Sterling scored 234 points proving clinical in front of goal & versatile across the 3 attacking berths in Peps line-up becoming the key man alongside Sergio Aguero. Laporte scored 177 points through a combination of clean sheets, bonus points & attacking returns. A nailed on starter with a goal threat made Laporte an FPL managers dream. It is no secret that Aguero is a key asset for city & last season he proved just that scoring 201 points securing his position as the main striker meaning Gabriel Jesus cut a dejected figure.

Pre-season Form

Manchester City have has a mixed pre-season with 3 wins and 1 loss on penalties to Wolves. Sterling (£12.0m) has scored 4 goals, albeit missing a penalty against Wolves in the Asia Trophy Final. Although the team have scored 13 goals in 4 games there has only been 1 clean sheet in the 0-0 with Wolves. These results however can be taken with a pinch of salt due to the missing South American players such as Ederson, Aguero and Jesus who were at the Copa America.

We have seen new signings Angelino and Rodri in action. Pep has suggested Angelino will improve although he does look a last resort option in the left back position and potentially a Carabao cup specialist. Rodri has had plenty of minutes and has been praised by De Bruyne, Pep and other members of the squad on his performances. You would largely expect Fernandinho to maintain his role with Rodri stepping in frequently to allow the ageing player rest and to learn the role.

Star Man – Raheem Sterling (£12.0m)

Forecasting the 2019/20 season it is hard to see anyone else but Raheem Sterling being the highest point scorer. At 24 years old Sterling has already shown elite form and under Pep he is improving constantly. He has the fitness levels to keep up with the demanding style of play and with uncertainty over Leroy Sane looks a guaranteed starter on the left flank. Allocated as a midfielder Sterling will benefit from the clean sheets and extra points per goal in comparison to Aguero who may also face tougher competition from Jesus. The future looks very bright for Sterling at City and he could even be used in a centre forward role depending on how Aguero and Jesus recover from the Copa America.

Hidden Gem – John Stones (£5.5m)

Although the citizens boast many great and obvious talents John Stones could be the hidden asset your fantasy team is looking for. With the departure of Vincent Kompany and priced at £5.5m a full £1.0m cheaper than Laporte and £0.5m cheaper than Kyle Walker £6.0m he could be a budget saving way into the champions defence. Before a renaissance from Kompany last year Stones was the main partner of Laporte. Stand out performances against Liverpool at home with his last ditch clearance and a strong world cup in 2018 Stones looks ready & able to claim his spot in the 11.

With no centre back replacement signed & Otamendi looking to leave & involved in the Copa America it is hard to see Stones not starting the opening game against West Ham. Another hidden gem could be Zinchenko who starred at left back in the title and fa cup run in. Priced also at £5.5m he looks set to start the season with Mendy injured and Angelino off the pace. However as a set and forget Stones faces perhaps less competition for his position.

Gamble Pick – Leroy Sane (£9.5m)

Looking at a gamble pick Leroy Sane stands out as the main candidate. At £9.5m as a regular starter he would be an almost certain pick for FPL Managers. Sane has a great history of point scoring when on the field & has the ability to turn any full back inside out as well as clinical finishing and precision crossing. Transfer rumours have failed to go away, although Pep wants him to stay a move to FC Bayern is looking likely. However if he does stay and is getting regular minutes Sane will be an explosive option for your team as well as a captain option.

Predicted Line-up

Ederson
Walker – Stones – Laporte – Zinchenko
Fernandinho
De-bruyne – D.Silva
B.Silva – Aguero – Sterling
