Raphael Nya – Fantasy Football Potential

Wolves have confirmed the signing of 19 year old Raphael Nya from Ligue 1 champions PSG on a three year deal. Nya’s preferred position is right back, but can fill in along the back line when required, but is viewed as an understudy to Matt Doherty.

Here’s what academy manager Scott Sellars has had to say about the signing:

“As a player, he very much fits our style. He’s a centre half who is excellent in possession of the ball, is a good reader of the game and anticipates well, so he’s got real potential. Like a lot of the lads, we’ll try him in different positions and see where he fits best in our system.”

“From meeting him and watching him train over the past couple of days, you can see he’s a leader and a communicator, he’s been really impressive.”

Player History

Nya is from France and has played for PSG’s Youth sides for the past four years, but has struggled to break into the senior side.

Last season Nya played 7 fixtures in the UEFA Youth League last season with PSG in which he was the team captain. He played a total of 535 minutes across the 7 fixtures (1 off the bench), keeping 2 clean sheets in the process as PSG were runners up in their group before being knocked out of the competition by Hertha BSC.

Fantasy Football Potential

Nya will most likely join Rob Edwards’ under-23’s for the upcoming season, as Wolves under-23’s are playing in the Premier League 2 Division 1 following their promotion last season. That said, with Wolves having secured a Europa League place last season, they will certainly need to make the most of their squad in order to limit fatigue, so there is a possibility this season that some of the under-23’s will be played in either cup fixtures or the league.

That said, it wouldn’t be worth bringing in the youngster due to his limited time with the club and the fact that he has been brought in to play with the under-23’s this season. He will no doubt be one for the future.
