Sepp Van Den Berg – Fantasy Football Potential

Liverpool have made their 1st signing of the summer, snapping up a young 17 year old Dutch defender Sepp Van Den Berg from PEC Zwolle on a ‘long-term contract’ for a fee of around £1.3 million which could rise to £4.4 million.

The youngster was obviously ecstatic about his ‘dream move’ – “It’s just an amazing feeling” Van Den Berg told the Liverpool Website. “It is, for me, the biggest club in the world and it’s a dream come true. I am really excited.

“I’ve seen what kind of players from the Academy grew into the first team here. It is unbelievable, especially when this kind of big club does that. Of course, the trainer [Jürgen Klopp] is a great guy and one of the reasons they are successful – and also one of the reasons I came here. I think this is the best place for me to grow and hopefully play a lot of games here.”

Player History

After coming through the youth setup at PEC Zwolle since 2012, he made his breakthrough campaign in 2018/19. He made 22 appearances, 15 in the league, wrapping up 906 minutes, averaging over 36 passes per game, making 1.3 tackles, 2.7 clearances and 0.8 interceptions.

He also managed to score 2 goals for the Netherlands under 19’s in 6 appearances.

Fantasy Football Potential

Neither he will be a starter at the club, nor he is an ‘academy player’. He has been signed to grow and develop into a top class defender. Jurgen Klopp will look to keep him as close to the first team as possible so that he can learn from Virgil Van Dijk.

He will be expected to feature in the cup games and very few, if any Premier League games this season, but he certainly will be one for the future.
