Arsenal have announced the signing of William Saliba from Saint-Etienne on a long term contract in a deal believed to be worth around £27 million. Sailba is the Gunner’s third signing of the summer transfer window joining after Dani Ceballos and Gabriel Martinelli.
Here’s what Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has had to say about the signing:
“We’re delighted William is joining us. Many teams wanted him but he decided he wanted to come to us and be part of our future. He will stay in France next season for more experience and then we look forward to him joining our group.”
Saliba joined Saint-Etienne in 2016 and in May 2018 he signed him first professional contract at the age of 17. During the 2018/19 campaign the youngster made his first team debut against Toulouse in Ligue 1, where he helped the team win 3-2. Saliba went on to make 12 more starts during the course of the season, where he helped keep 8 clean sheets, playing centre back and right back on 3 occasions.
Internationally, Saliba has played for various French youth levels, most recently playing for the under-20’s.
Fantasy Football Potential
Arsenal’s head of football has already disclosed that William Sliba is not ready for Premier League football and has been loaned back to Saint Etienne. This additional year in France should give the youngster more first team game time and will be one for the future for the Gunners.
